A long weekend of shows: last night The Police in The Park, Andy on Strats and his Tele (repro). Glad to have caught it, because I’m sure we all feel the Police story is now definitely finished.

More importantly, the night before on the same stage was Eric Clapton, with John Mayer as support. To my ears Clapton was in peak trim: it took him a couple of numbers to get his fingers working right, and then he seemed to hit every target dead center. Heavenly realms. Mayer came back on for the inevitable Clapton-and-friends spot at the end and played very nicely indeed. But, without any “blowing-guys-off-the-stage” nonsense, there was no doubt at all about who was boss: Clapton all the way.

A big contrast to some EC shows I’ve seen. So I was wanting to ask all the true Clapton believers on this Forum how they are finding his playing right now, in terms of his whole career? Never been better, to my uneducated mind – and we all know he’s had some ups and downs… How do Slowhand-ophiles rate where he’s at, right now?

Cheers - C

i saw him at madison square garden in february with steve winwood and was completely blown away by him, me and my father kept catchin eachother basically drooling with our jaws dropped for the entire show...i still think he's at the top of his game but he claims he was much better during the nineties

I`m a big Clapton fan from the 60`s and to me, he`s like a fine wine... he got better with age. But the Layla album was one of my favorite albums he ever did.

Ceri i believe to the best of my musical expierience of eric clapton is that he is playing the best music off his life apart from his cream/bluesbrakers days.some off his solos now are so strong and i hope to see him in scotland soon!
