I'm hoping that someone has had this issue before me.

I recently purchased a '94 Fender Ultra and I really like it.

Other than the issues with the pickups going out and some other minor stuff, I have another issue that I just can't seem to sort out.

One of the locking tuner caps was missing so I found one on the net that looked exactly right and ordered it. I wasn't very expensive. It was bright chrome and had the identical shape, size and machining as seen from the top (in the advertisement) as the originals.

When I got it, I tried it and it threaded on OK. Well, when I went to change my strings the other day I went to install it. It threaded on OK and I thought it was good to go but then noticed that it was not locking down on the string. I took one of the original caps off and noticed that, although they were identical from the top, the undersides had a small difference. The replacement that I had ordered had a small circular channel surrounding the threaded hole, whereas the original was solid and did not have the channel.

Any ideas where I can get the correct part... they never show the underside!!!

Maybe you have the Sperzel/Schaller/Other dilemma...
The Ultras should originally have Schaller (staggered) locking tuners (while Pluses & Plus Deluxes at least started with Sperzels), that replacement you bought may be any brand...
Try straight from info@schaller-electronic.com, in my experience they try to help if possible.

And for more specific forum help, you could post the pics from the caps' undersides

Also if I'm remembering correctly Schaller changed the design of the tuners slightly - as you say the caps/thumbwheels are different. What I done remember is when that change occurred.

I suppose I could modify the cap with some JB Weld but I want to keep it all accurate.
