It's been a bit since I paid attention to Eric Clapton. I happened to watch a live concert tonight and to my great surprise, he was playing what appeared to be a 2-color-sunburst Strat (mostlikely a Clapton model). Interesting. I wonder if sales of Clapton Strats would go up if Fender began selling them? I know that the Buddy Guy Strat in the 90s was prettyuch a 2CS Clapton Strat, and they didn't last long.

Yeah, he started with that (them) on the latest tour which started back in May. He was still using it last weekend.
There's a bit of discussion on this thread viewtopic.php?f=14&t=98871

In an interview about "Brownie"...Clapton stated...

"It had been played-it didn't look much different from the way it looks now. What I would always look for on a Strat was a maple neck that had been worn out. It's like a restaurant," he laughs. "If there's lots of people in there, it's gotta be good food. So I just thought if it had all those kind of worn out patches, it meant that it had been well favored. This is what it was like when I bought it."

That's the reason I chose a 12 y/o Clapton Neck for my latest build the "Hot Rod Brownie"

One explanation is Eric commissioned the modernized Brownie almost two years after the tribute version was released.

But there's not the first time we see him playing sunburst Stratocasters.....

Perhaps he changed his mind and finally "authorized" the matched 2-tone burst after many long years? Only Arne "ZZDoc" could shed up his light on that trivia.

Not to be confused with the "T-Mobile" guitar.
