I posted this yesterday http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=99416
I also searched 1000 or more posts and pages for information.
I found a million discussions of the ST54 80AM....
Mine is 1993-94 ST54 EX....In the neck pocket their is a red triangle with an M inside it.
It is also a *gasp* Foto Flame. I would appreciate any info as far as specs and current value in USD.
I restrung it today and did a setup and this guitar plays and sounds awesome
Can anybody tell me about a ST54 EX and NOT an ST54 80AM?
Please?

I believe the EX means it was an export model, but other than that, can't help much.

My experience with MIJ guitars is that they usually have great workmanship but poor parts.

No need to start a new topic everyday on the same subject. We're all trying to help here - but you didn't even comment on the answers you already got, before this restart.

The specs for MIJ's are always a bit tricky, since Fender Japan didn't have the same kind of publishing system as Fender US/MIM's do. On some models, someone has dug out the specs (from brochures or something), so keep googling if you get a better fitting alternative.
But the ST54 EX-model most likely has the same general features as the domestic ST-54 model, so I'll borrow the ST54/VSP specs:
Quote:
Body: Ash; Neck: Maple one piece; Grip shape: V type; Scale: 324mm; Fretboard: Maple; Fret: 21F Vintage; Radius: 184R; Nut width: 42mm; Pickups: Alnico Custom ST (Japan) x 3; Controls: 1 Vol, 2 Tone (CTS); Switch: 5Way SW (USA); Bridge: Steel block S8F Vintage; Tuner: MHG-SD91 Ni; Pickguard:- - -; Other: With/Special gig case;
You have to check for yourself if those fit, though.
And by the way, there's a lot of speculation on possible differences between EX(port) and domestic models. I'd guess the EX stamp was in use just because of the FMIC<->Japanese manufacturers contracts, to control the amount of MIJ's sent abroad.

On the price: same as other MIJ's from the same era in the same condition, plus a little extra for the FotoFlame. Maybe something like $400 to $700, depending also a lot on where you live.

Those red stamps are factory marks, probably for identifying a product line, or belonging to a worker or such. I've never seen a list of the exact meaning of the red stamps, let alone a factory publishing one.
And, they don't make a guitar more/less valuable as far as I know.

The link to Xhefri gives you all the info you needed. He is quite knowledgeable on these..
As far as value, sounds like you are hoping that these can be resold at a premium....

Being that it is a " Foto " effect versus an actual figured Maple top and back, the demand is going to be as a novelty.
Well made these are but there are caveats.. If any solid body guitar can be prone to adverse effects from sudden atmospheric changes, these will definitely be affected.
Should always be stored in a hard shell case and always allowed to acclimate when going from outdoors to indoors and vice versa.
I have come across a couple that were delaminating so they need to be handled responsibly.
Not many of these around so there definitely is more people holding on to them then selling...
