Hi,
Can anybody help me to get more details on the stratocaster with serial:
R32662
It is a real new old stock and still new in a shop. The salesman has not a lot of info about the strat.

It has a natural finish with a rosewood fretboard, a black pickguard.

I would like to know what the exact specs are; radius and lacquer used et cetara.

Kind regards,

Well...I think this one comes close to the one in the shop:

http://www.eddievegas.com/store/details ... p-2010.php

I don't know how to post pics. The difference is the pickguard; the one in the shop is black; this one is white.

The salesman did manage to find a COA in the case with a statement of the type 'vintage relic'; but fender customer service had found a different stratocaster guitar with the serial (Custom Vintage Heavy Relic Stratocaster in 3-Tone Sunburst finish manufactured 06/2007).

It is a long drive to the shop, but I will check the strat next week...

The one in the picture looks nice, but if the serial number on the neck matches up to a relic'd 3 tone burst then something seems wrong.

Did the COA that the salesman managed to find in the case also list the same serial number that Fender shows to be a burst guitar? The vintage relic statement on the COA can cover a lot of finishes but it sounds like Fender was specific - Custom Vintage Heavy Relic Stratocaster in 3-Tone Sunburst finish manufactured 06/2007.

That is not a burst body so maybe someone took the neck off of the one Fender is describing and put it on a natural body? If so, it has lost it's Custom Shop value and should be priced accordingly. Doesn't make it a bad guitar in itself - as long as the hardware and electronics are up to par it could be a fine guitar. Just shouldn't be called or priced as a Custom Shop. But at least it does have a Custom Shop neck and is hard to find better. It does have the Custom Shop logo on the neck?

Might be interesting to take the neck off and see what is stamped in the neck pocket but doubt if the store would let you do that.

As far as pictures - just need to upload them to a photo sharing site like Photobucket and paste the URL into your post.

Natural was not offered until the 1970s.

From what I recall Fender didn't offer the natural finish as a standard feature until the early 1970's. To be honest I've never seen pre-CBS guitars and basses in natural.

I think the first such finishes were introduced when FMI switched to ash bodies for the Strat line. That may have occurred in 1972 and coincided with the advent of the 3-bolt/micro-tilt necks.

1972 also marked the addition of a second string tree for the D and G strings.
