Hi everyone. After some information/confirmation.

I've been offered this strat in a trade but I can't find a thing online about it. The seller says he bought it second hand in a music store and that it's a 2002 Flat Black HSS Mexican special strat, rosewood board, all black, with a 70's style headstock, re finished so it doesn't have that matt finish... maybe it was a limited run but does anyone have any thoughts? Any information would be greatly appreciated, I'm most curious about the 70's headstock!

Thanks.

Markus

Hi Markus

Welcome to the forum.
Any chance of resizing the picture, as it's way too big.
TIA

I see that the screws holding the scratchplate and out jack plate are not original, so I suspect that someone has been tinkering with it.

How do I do that?

Is it MIM?
That Strat needs intonating. See how the 6 bridge keys are all set perfectly lined up? They will look irregular after you intonate.

I'm not confirming anything on those two picks and the amount of other info available.

But on the information section:
No too loud alarm bells ringing.
I'm thinking maybe it's the Deluxe Fat Strat with some mods..?
The "flat black" is a bit strange in this context, maybe just seller talk - or he/she/it said "fat", you heard "flat"
Of course, an FSR is a possibility.

What raises your curiosity on the large peghead?
It's not totally unknown in that era MIM's - there was also the 70's Strat (3bolt neck) etc.

The design of the 6 string guides/keys in the bridge make me think that is a MIM Strat. I had a Squire Strat that had a similar bridge setup.
