8) So as I posted in the other build thread, this is a continuation of the IVth Stratopartster project.
It actually needed to be a new and separate thread concerning an older build that became a backdrop to the Telepartster I Build...

That clarified I will begin by describing the general outline of this Stratopartster IV build.

The body is figured Maple, it was cut from a 2-1/4 in. thick, 14 in. wide and 24 in long baulk that I bought 3 years ago at a hardwood supplier Downes & Reader in Mass. I had them cut it to lenght from cut off pieces set aside.

The build plan on this was to also have a back route, accessed from the rear pup adjustment. For all the covers I was able to slice off a complete back contour 3/16" thick. This will give me the back covers for pups and control access.
Pickup vertical adjustment will be from the rear, inset into the covers so that as on the Telepartster I there will not be any visible adjustment screws poking out from the front ( except for the 5 way switch ) although if I can come up with an alternate solution, it will be considered over time.

The final body finish will be clear lacquer over a Cherry Red Sunburst. I may completely stain the back in Cherry Red and only have the sunburst effect on the front.. Pickups selection is undecided but leaning heavily towards Custom Shop 69's. I don't have those sonorities and for cleaner fingerpicked styles. ( think of early Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler tone )...
Hardware will of course be vintage 6 point trem although I am not averse to another hard tail. Pretty much all will be Fender parts, including neck... I believe at this point that my red crimson MIM will be donating most or all parts ... unless :?:

So on this initial note I will back track and post relevant pics...
Here is the link to where this all started for reference, as it is intermixed it is too convoluted to edit and recreate two threads...

This is where it started as two modest Maple blanks / baulks

And where we are at today.

As we move forward with this build, I will add a relevant older pic but for the sake of staying in the moment 90% of the pictures are going to be new.
For those of you puzzled, this is what is called book matching tops and for this guitar. It is actually 2 halves.
The process is ...
(1) Take the piece that will become the top.
(2) Cut it in half thickness wise.
(3) Once cut as two pieces , open them up like two pages 8-9 in a book.
(4) This gives you hopefully 2 close to identical pieces. Almost like a mirror image.

I repeated the process for the back then glued all 4 halves together...

Saving time here is the halves already layed out and about to be glued than joined and clamped for a day or two... BTW I changed my mind here and these two halves actually became the backs not the tops.

Image

Here is a pic of both the top and back halves glued up and ready to be joined to make the body.
Middle blank is the back, right side blank is the top.
But I also have what was to become the Telepartster I to the left..... 8)

That was a risk, but were I to continue in the original double thread it would be like sifting thru War and Peace.

All in jest...but the "War & Peace" comment you made got me thinking...how old is it?

Post subject: Stratopartster IV & TelePartster I Build Posted: Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:18 pm

I applaud the decision to split the threads :D
