I've purchased an ultra recently - what great stats these are! I'm reasonably confident its 100% original apart from the colour - which is currently Taos Turquoise. I had my suspicions when purchasing but got a reasonable deal, so no complaints and it's a good quality respray. However, is there any way its original colour / build config could be determined from its serial number SN6938417?

Contact Fender customer services with the serial number http://www.fender.com/contact-us?_ga=1. ... 1432809965
They should hopefully be able to give you the spec.

I seem to recall that the Strat Plus Ultra originally came in 3-color-sunburst maple top.

Photos. Taken on iPhone, so good resolution but poor colour rendering - its more green blue / faded than shown here - as high be expected with an aged nitro finish. The small dark crescent under the neck plate is not a shadow but the undercoat that has not been over sprayed - perhaps they thought it was a three bolt neck that would have covered it! I understand this guitar was in the west coast USA before being imported to the UK a couple of years ago - all before I purchased it.

I actually meant copy and paste from the photo site so that the picture you took shows up in your post / thread, not a link to ... Thanks

Tried that initially and the page would not accept my picture paste! But what do I know about how to drive this - it does not have steel strings or any valves. I'm assuming the links work - if not let me know.

The links DO work...looks like a REAL Ultra...Pickguard and Neck & Plate..in an Unusual color...

I forget...what's the question?

You need much better pics for a thorough evaluation...with the Scratch Plate off as well...that's where you'll find clues to the original color

It was along the lines of... 'can the original colour of this guitar be established - serial number provided'.

You've got the answer...maybe...request the specs for your serial number from: consumerrelations@fender.com

They don't have many recorded before...what...'93...something like that.

Removing the Scratch Plate is more accurate...easier and within your reach.

No reason you can't do BOTH

Are you familiar with the procedure for removing the Pickguard/Scratch Plate without damage? If not...let us know.

I'd kinda like to know. :D But you didn't share your serial number here...so what now...nonsensical speculation?

Okay...the guitar was made in late '93 or later...LSR Nut...Ultra line started in '90...there were a bunch of colors and special tops offerred..."end speculation" 8)

I can assure you this has either a refinished body or a body swap. Ultras never came in solid colors like this. The serial number is new enough that Fender czn tell you what that neck was attached too when it left Fender. See my ultra page on my website: http://xhefriguitars.com/page4.html

Ok i just looked at all the pictures. This body has been refinished. I can tell by the screw holes and other little give aways....
