A MIM Strat or a Highway1 Strat would work for you.

Check ebay. There is always tons of Strats and pretty good prices. Good Luck.

i'd say go with the strat, you could find some around 400 or 500, or if that is too much you could go with a squier or something like that.

I wouldn't suggest Squier. In my opinion Squier sucks. Get a Fender Standard Strat.

Squire ain't THAT bad, but it ain't a Fender either. You can go to Musician's Freind or Guitar Center and get a NEW Fender for UNDER $400.

I have had bad luck with ordering over the internet. I had one guitar come in with a warped neck and had to send it back. A second guitar I purchase over the internet just felt too heavy and uncomfortable to me.

I mentioned in another post that you shouldn't buy a guitar without at least trying it first. Shop around and try every type of Fender guitar you can. You will find the right one for you.

Check out as many Squire Affinity series Strats as you can.. they are about $150 or so brand spanking NEW! If you end up not liking playing the guitar as much as you'd hoped you aren't in the hole that deep and can either sell it or give it away! AWESOME huh?

Some specs:
The finish is poly coated so paint chips will be reduced, the bodies are solid alder, and truth be told you just have to sift through them to find a nicer guitar.. play it unplugged to hear what it sounds like and as you get better from TAKING LESSONS to learn to play it,, you can upgrade almost all the hardware to much nicer specs.

For tuning machines I recommend Schallers, Fender Deluxes, Sperzels, Planet Waves, Grovers, Gotoh.. the list goes on but not much further as those are the mainstays in todays professional guitar world.

For pups there is plenty to choose from-Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, EMG, you name it.

As for the electronics you can upgrade those to much higher quality parts as well, be it stock Fender USA parts(as I did with my Squire) or even just something newer and sturdier than the stock pieces.

Even the bridge.. certain parts such as the saddles(they're the part of the bridge that the strings go over) have upgrade replacement parts or just replace the entire thing with new/better brand.

The Strat is such a versatile guitar that you can do almost anything to it to make it your own... Thank GOD Leo asked actual players to help REFINE his instrument. It is what has made it 1 of the most favored styles in the world for generations-its just so PERFECT!

Good luck in whatever you decide.
peace

Manno,

I bought a Mex. STD Strat. which has 21 frets like most if not all Mex. Strats (I'm not knocking Mex. strats, I love the one that I have), how ever there are times I wish I would have payed alittle more money for a strat that has 22 frets, just so I could get that exta range. Bottom line, get a good Mex. strat. there about $400
