First of all, if someone fakes a Fender, a number (neck code, serial etc.) is easy to fake. The originality of a guitar should be checked otherwise (and: before buying).

There are better (a lot better) 70's Strat experts on the forum than me, but I'll start:
Proceed with caution on that guitar - I've been under the impression that the "03" should be the code for a maple fretboard neck.

More & bigger pics might help.
Plus questions, like: Is it a 3bolt or 4bolt neck? Does it have a Micro-Tilt™? What's the general story of the guitar?
And: why are you asking - are you buying or making the guitar? :wink:

+1

Here's the full-size image of the entire instrument......

It does seem to have the bullet truss-rod adjust, which would be correct for a mid '70s Strat. And the body does seem to be ash. This guitar has definitely lived a hard life.

thank you for the reply

i think i might have found the answer from this web

Code:
http://www.strat-central.com/70sstrats/

Quote:
DATE CODES

M = Model or Manufacturer
O = Operator
N = Neck configuration
W = Week
Y = Year
D = Day

Neck Stamps:

MMNN*WWYD Example: 0900*3893 - Found on the very end of the neck heel, if at all, in green or dark red ink. First four digits are paired up, 09 is the model number for the Stratocaster, and 00 is the neck configuration, in his case a fretted Maple neck with a Rosewood fingerboard. The last four digits are broken into three. 38 is the week, 9 stands for the year, 1979, and 3 is the day of the week, which is Wednesday. The '*' represents a middle digit that is either an 'X', a '-' or something that resembles a '1/2' or '1/4' fraction.

Neck Configuration Codes:

00 = Rosewood fingerboard
01 = Rosewood fingerboard
02 = Maple fingerboard
03 = Maple fingerboard

Yep, that's what I was thinking - the beginning four numbers for a rosewood fretboard should be 0900 or 0901.
Mind you, exceptions to Fender codes are not rare - so, this number series is only one factor in fake/legit evaluation.

Aside from this there will be a serial number on the neck plate and it should be in the late 5000,000 or 600,000 to possibly but unlikely 700,000 range. Late 76 the number shifted to the headstock.
I am no expert in this area though! :D

Look up my IDing 70s era Strats on YouTube. I have a 4 part video on the subject. I go through the guitar top to bottom and inside and out. I also cover the neck dating system.

I've also posted them here under the education and/or Stratocaster sections.

For YouTube look up Paris Thalheimer. I hope this helps.

Emberuang's posting and links are good, too.

Let me know how it all turns out.

It looks like a guitar trying way too hard to look old - I have no idea how that pattern of wear could have occurred unless the previous owners playing style involved a jack plane.

Why would a scratch plate look so clean and new and yet be so broken, broken where it is and why wouldn't you replace it anyway? "Ah but it is original" - what with 11 holes?

Wear and damage does not occur on the interface of materials. If the body was worn through use there would be a margin around the pick guard, adjacent to the neck etc where the damaging implement (pick etc.) would be deflected. It certainly wouldn't be damaged under the pick guard. It just looks fake to me for that reason.

There has obviously been a significant amount of work to make the guitar look old and, as a result, absolutely everything would need to be 100% to indicate a legitimate history IMHO.

I need more detailed photos to be certain about this guitar. Some pics of the following would helpful: photos of the body contours, the bridge, head stock( back and front) routes inside the body and neck joint and the pickups (front and back). Also, does it have a 3 or 5 way switch?
