Go to the Fender products and pull up the specs for the American Strats and check out all of them and see if they differ.

example, for the American Standard.

Fender® Deluxe Staggered Cast/Sealed Tuning Machines

Go to this page and scroll down to specs, do the same for all of the American Strats. Then I would also go to a site like Stew-Mac and see what they have to offer. One thing I would recommend is locking tuners.

There are two sizes of holes drilled in headstocks for tuning machines. 11/32" fit what are usually called "vintage" tuners. 13/32" holes, more commonly refered to as 10 mm holes, fit most modern, contemporary tuners.

Most necks these days are drilled with 10 mm holes for modern tuners, unless the guitar is a "reissue" of an earlier period instrument, within which case it will likely be drilled for vintage tuners.

Very probably, your neck has 10 mm diameter holes, but just measure to be certain. There are things you can do if you get the wrong ones - but it is much better to get the right ones straight off.

Once you know the size of your holes then you can just choose from the vast range of brands and options available. www.stewmac.com is a good place to look.

Things to consider: different sizes, shapes and materials of buttons are available. For your 6-in-line headstock you will be wise to go for "mini" tuners, with buttons that are a bit smaller so's there's room for your fingers to get at 'em.

Many people like tuners with staggered poles: the posts where you secure your strings are different heights, highest nearest the nut, for a more even string breaking angle over the nut.

And many people also like locking tuners: you thread the string through the hole in the post and a mechanism then locks it in place. No need for the string to wind round the post, so it won't slip when you bend or use the trem, and thus stays in tune better.

Brands: Sperzel Trim-Lok 6-in-line machines have all the features I've just mentioned. I have them on a couple of guitars and they work very nicely. Some models of Schaller locking machines also have staggered poles (though mine don't): they are comparitively expensive but very good indeed. A lot of modern Strats use Fender-branded Schallers.

On the other hand decades of the world's finest players have used vintage tuners, which are simple, inexpensive and do the job just fine. Vintage-style tuners are available for 11/32" or 10 mm holes: just be sure which you are buying.

Good luck

I have purchased necks from them on Ebay as well. Just go to their store and look for 2007-08 American tuners. If you have any questions - you can email them with your winning Ebay neck and ask them if they will work together. Should be between $30-$40 bucks shipped. They are pretty good about responding.

Regards,
Bob
