Back in the day Nile Rodgers was often seen on stage toting a Strat with an acrylic body.
I wouldn't be surprised to find out he still has it, and the only reason he doesn't bring it out to play now is because it's physically too heavy.

Then there's all those guys who played the Dan Armstrong plexiglass guitars and basses .....

I like Candy Apple Red, but I don't own one. I've dreamed of having a Fender Electric XII in Creamsicle orange.

Shmears, Vomits, Burning/Ice Waters and Drips (I know Fender doesn't use those finishes for their guitars but I'm a huge fan of weird finishes, especially on a Strat.)

(guitar is not mine, I do not own any credits for the photo).

I agree. Strats are such "straight laced" down to earth, classic electric guitars that no end of weirdness seems to find a balance.

Wield finishes on weird shapes just look like the tool of an emotionless shredder. Put the same finish on a Strat and it still looks like it can do anything.

I have black, red, purple and two-tone sunburst. But I want to recreate my "The Kids Say Hi" Christmas card from years ago, and to do that, I'd have to get a green (surf green would be perfect) Strat. The original card featured an aqua and a red Tele.

With the card out of the way though, then I'd have to go on to a clear finish.

I think I would be inclined to use the red one and change the colour in Photoshop if it is just for an image.

I could, but that would take away all the "having to" out of getting a surf green Strat :|

Though I did once use GIMP (freeware similar in concept to PhotoShop) to make a picture of myself look almost half human if looked at in the right light, with a grain of salt and after say 8 or 9 beers. If I could do that with me, I could do wonders with a Strat because they look good to begin with!

I gotta agree with others in that this should probably be worded as "if you could have only 1" or "what's your favorite"...after all, I have around 25 guitars and only a few are the same color/finish. I currently have 2 black Strats and 2 in Lake Place blue...the rest are pretty unique (not counting the "natural" acoustics of course).

So with that qualifier, if I had to choose a singular favorite, it would either be a vintagy 2 tone sunburst (like that found on the Squier CV Strats) or the Cherry Sunburst (Squier Standards). That said, other favorites include a nice natural or stained finish, I love a nice blue or purple sunburst, Dakota red is always nice and over the years the Lake Placid blue has really grown on me (both my '95 and '96 Stardards are LP blue). The Midnight Blue on my '99 is pretty sweet too, as is the transparent red on my Ibanez (although I really love that vintage violin finish of theirs). It's also worth noting that, in my singular, not so humble opinion, one of the loveliest guitars EVER built is a Gretsch White Falcon...that white/gold combo is just soooo elegant.

Hmmm...good thing I don't have to limit myself to just one 8) .

I also have to admit that being an artist, I've tossed some graphics designs around too. I haven't actually put one on a guitar yet, however I do have a couple of pretty cool designs, including a Geisha motif, an Egyptian motif, a Mayan motif (which I may do as a laser etch some day on an acoustic) and of course "The Mistress".

Anyways...just my own opinions.

Not to mention the custom Graffiti Canvas Stratocasters EC used extensively between 2001 and 2004!

Funny how, of 3 seemingly similar guitars I like two of them but not the one EC is playing.

On the - if you could only have one finish - I love the sunburst on my 10 for 15 hardtail.

Of the above my favourite is the Egyptian but probably without a coloured scratchplate. Gold would be good.

You CAN have any finish you want. My MIM Standard is now Sonic Blue, a great improvement over the Midnight Wine color that it started life as.

Guitar Re-Ranch sells user-friendly kits of Nitrocellulose laquer and clear coats. I got really great results on my first try.
