I have been pondering the whole printed finish concept and have concluded I rather like a print under a sunburst as it is both different but also a little restrained and conservative.

It would also be practical to produce, as the printing doesn't go all the way around, and still allows the owner the flexibility to change the look of the pick guard and plastic parts.

I rather like.....a lot.

A few posts earlier I said, that I don´t like graphic art guitars very much, but the first two of John, with the Roy Lichtenstein style, just look fantastic.
I also said that I´d like Picasso or Hundertwasser-paintings on guitars. Why doesn´t make Fender a series of guitars (like the "10 for ´15") with famous paintings of famous artists as a finish. For exaple like Andy Warhol´s BMW car.
Further artists could be Piet Mondrian, Kasimir Malewisch, Vincent Van Gogh, Wassily Kandisky, Paul Klee, Franz Marc or Edvard Munch and so on.
But I´d definitely prefer Picasso, Hundertwasser and Kandinsky.
I don´t know if it will work with the copyrights of the paintings but I think a lot of guitar players would like it.

I really like the second one but not feeling the first one at all.

Yeah the guitars look so great, thanx man.
On the first guitar´s finish is Hundertwassers "switch board", but from whom is the second one?

Nice stuff John, the Art Burst does look more refined, maybe burst edging could hint at a colour within.
Really like your classy amber swirl on the previous page, subtle contrasts and almost organic.

Thank you for your comments. My MIM swirl (called CW - short for Curly Wurly) has just had some presents - a new black scratchplate to replace the one made from melted down carrier bags and a TBX tone control. I had pondered a different colour to black but everything else seemed a bit contrived.

It may get new PUPs at some stage but they are a fair outlay when you aren't sure what to fit. It would be a pain to buy the wrong ones.

One of the local music stores had a Fender Blacktop Strat HSH for sale with a titanium silver finish. It was a thing of beauty with the black pick guard, volume and tone knobs.

Yeah nice, the titanium is a little darker than the Ghost Silver Standard Strat HSH, subtle, could even drop Jokomo silver pickup stickers on the 2 white coils and mid as well, for a Ghost Silver Stealth Strat. Nice

That Harley Strat should stay locked up, could seriously run rampage if let out.

OOOOOOO something even more NO than the silver one. How could that even be possible?

If there is even the slightest grain of truth in tone woods then making a Strat from acrylic has nothing in its favour aside you can see if you have a dodgy connection.

Not for me either! Might as well go all the way and add some colored LED lights in the thing. Or make a lava lamp out of it and leave it on the stand.

Rob Zombie plays an acrylic Tele but guess any natural tone would get lost in all that distortion anyway. Knew someone who had an acrylic bass but I never got a chance to really check it out. Was before I started playing bass.

I have a friend in a Metal band. He finished his guitar with that Line X pickup truck bedliner stuff. Ugly but kinda carries the Metal theme. Swears that it helped the tone too. Well, helped for his kinda music anyway.
