Hi,

I own a 2014 American Standard Strat and not sure how much I like the neck shape.

How much has the strat's neck shape changed along the past years? Since when does it have its current shape? What should I do if I'd like to try a strat at the same benchmark but with a different neck shape?

Cheers :)

I have absolutely no idea of your skill levels or your experience on guitars, so I'll take the safe road (= answer like to a total beginner):

Over the years, Fender has made just about every imaginable profile, width and thickness...

Now that's a good question. I'd guess the "modern C" profile is from the early nineties/late eighties. Some forum wizard probably will soon tell the real introduction year, along with the name of the worker who sanded the first one and what he/she had for breakfast that day

First a few "disclaimers":
Have you played your AmStd enough so you're sure you have accustomed to the neck? If you're switching (e.g.) from an acoustic, it takes some time.
Plus of course, a really good player will sound good on any guitar, so sticking to the idea of "the one and only right neck" may be an obstacle for getting better.

After those ponderings, at first just play Strats with different necks, don't worry about benchmarkings.
IMHO, the feel of a neck doesn't depend on the price/body/electronics, but on profile, radius, frets and finish - not necessarily on this order. Find out what you like and dislike.

Then, you have multiple choices.
Get a new neck for the guitar you have - keep the old neck, in case you want to sell the guitar later as an original Fender. You can get the new one from Fender: Fender necks, or get a Fender licensed neck, or buy a second hand neck, or - well, you get the idea.
Or sell the guitar, and buy another Strat.
Or just get another Strat.

The two most common Strat neck shapes found on current guitars are Modern C and Soft V. You probably have a Modern C. That's a pretty middle of the road shape and hard not to like. You should be able to find a Soft V to try out at a music store to see if you like it. Other than that, Fender has quite a few shapes that have been used over the years that you can search out. But, most are larger than your Modern C.

The 'modern C' neck carve [ never liked it] was created with a rounded shoulder to simulate a 'played in' feel. It is pretty much the generic neck for Fender unless there is something specific which speaks to a different shape. I remember it being launched but couldn't supply an exact date. I would venture to say it's been in place for at least a decade, perhaps even longer, as suggested. If you need to know precisely, contact Fender Consumer Affairs. Maybe they've got it in their data base. You never know with them. :?
