 Who wants a high gloss guitar body? I just can't stand a guitar that is shiny. When I look at one it hurts my eyes severely. What ever happened to satin, or is that just for USA bodys? MIM glossy as gloss gets..why? Who here prefers high gloss body or satin?

Isn't it amazing how fast Fender responded to your wish: Standard Satin

You could always take your shiny new guitar to a machine shop and have the body media-blasted or shot-peened......

We're talking about bodies, correct? Fender has been using polyurethane since the 80s. The satin finish (which was nitrocellulose) showed up on only the Hwy1 models, which are now discontinued.

I rather like the gloss on a new guitar. If it's going to be polyester then you might as well have it nice and glossy.

That said I am talking about clear or semi clear finishes. I agree that a solid colour in a glass like gloss finish can be too much and end up looking like a slab of plastic.

Funny how it is a issue on guitars but on a grand piano you would expect nothing less.

I think the mexis are mainly polyester and the US polyurethane.
both can be very slippery and like plastic to hold thats for sure!

Never really thought about it. But if you're gonna make me think about it.....I guess I like "shiny".

I have an 06' Hwy. 1, it has Satin finish...and it already has a rubbed off "road worn" look, and my 1985 Harmony (that has had the heck played out of it) is still shiny.

My opinion is: "Road worn" DOES have character, as long as it is YOU that got it that way. Never could figure out why people pay extra money to have Fender wear a paint job out for them.

If I buy a new car, I want it to shine for as long as I can make it last.

We have still another winner for the OP: the Roadworn Strat. So, there's more to choose than "Orange and Gold".

Plus, a sheet of #2000 grit wet sand paper, a little water/soap mixture and an hour of labor will take care of the glossiness. Almost exactly like a few thousand hours of playing would.

The "current satin" is "Satin Urethane" on Standards and Sandblasteds. And the current nitro version (SE 60's Strat Lacquer) is glossy, go figure... (BTW, nitro and matching headstock - wow).

Hear ya... I like the poly finishes... they're friggin awesome. Nitro's cool too... A tangent, I know but, I find it interesting how people will spend extra for a relic... beyond me why someone would actually want to buy a new guitar... that is artificially "worn" but, hey, that's just me I guess
I prefer to put the wear on it myself... THAT... is true "Mojo" 8)

Guess I'm lucky. I have a glossy body (well, not me - the Strat) and a satin neck, the best of both worlds.

I like glossy too.

For some reason I take better care of a shinny guitar.
