$500 limit: looking for a strat. I'm into classic rock, mostly Pink FLoyd and Led Zeppelin. Tremolo necessary, but I can't deal with Floyd Rose. Hate the look of a floating trem.

Any recomendations? The $500 is flexible.

I think you should just go for the mexi standard its only like 430 dollars and is a great guitar.

Hello DavidGilmoreFan33,

Well if your flexible with $500
how about $600, that'll get you
a highway one{USA} or a
Deluxe Player{mexico}.

Otherwise those Mex standards
are good, and you can hotrod
them later if that grabs you.

Best of luck on you choice.

Cheers.

PS Welcome to this forum.

Couple of questions: What does Hotrod mean? Like, change pickups, etc.?
Also: do any of your suggestions use EMGs? Bc I hate those.

Hello DavidGilmoreFan33,

Hot rodding is changing anything
from factory. Like pickups,tuning machines
bridge, saddles, even a new paint job.

It can be a lot of fun learning to do your own
setups and intonation.

As for what kind of pickups,
Play and listen to many before
you part with you hard earned cash.

I did not mean to imply that the stock
mexico pickups were inadequit,
they're good and frankly when I
buy a used MIM I want stock pickups.

Cheers.

Whatever you get, if you are using the tremolo a lot, I'd invest about 60-70$ for some locking tuners.

I picked up a new '07 Highway one (MIA) for 500$ before taxes and I really cannot complain. People say there are not a lot of differences between a Highway one and a Mexi, but I had the Mexican standard and could not stand it. The pickups, the way the body felt when I used my strap (lack of good contours), etc, the tuners were terrible, and the bridge saddles were not that great. Granted, everybody's experiences with the MIMs will vary.

Whatever you get, make sure YOU feel comfortable playing it and enjoy the way it sounds.

I bet you'd like a black strat with a maple neck.

Then buy yourself a black pickguard ...

and you'll be all set!

If you can go to $600, I'd definitely look at the Deluxe Players Strat.

To me, it was better than the Highway One, but was $150 cheaper.

It's a vintage-style guitar. It's not a perfect replica of the originals, but it's pretty close. Vintage-style tuners, Vintage Noiseless pickups, ash body.

The only issue you may have (some people do), is that it has gold hardware, which can get ugly after a few years.

I saw a 1974 Les Paul Custom the other day, though, with aged gold hardware, and thought it added a bit of character to the guitar.

I would look for a used one. I purchased an American Deluxe (mod to HSS) in near mint condition for under $500. Take your time and find a deal.

It's the queen of the group and I lucked out. I just purchased a white Squier Deluxe and I will say that I am very impressed with it. Certainly not an American Fender, but a very nice instrument that I would recommend to anyone.

Hello Highwayoneplayer,

Sam Ash had a black maple neck
for $599 over the memorial day
weekend. Shop around, be on the
sales persons side and you'll get a deal.

Cheers.

i tell man some of these MIM strats will give a MIA a good
run for the money and if you hot rod one oh baby look out.
