Lots of good advice/suggestions here.
However, I think the best line posted is that by Danagos: find a neck that you find comfortable to play. An oval neck ala the SRV model feels a lot different from the Clapton V-shape. And play lots of different Strats-even those rolling off the assembly line side by side are not identical, particularly not as regards neck shape and feel-there are always slight differences.
I would also advise you not to get caught up with either the hype and allure of the "Artist's" models, or with whatever gimmick Fender is pushing this season. Often you'll be paying hundreds of dollars more for features that may not end up being that important to you, or that you could have accomplished yourself with some minor tweaking.
Start with the American Standard. There's a reason it is Fender's flagship instrument, and has been for 60 years. Play lots and lots of them. Don't forget to check the used market-these guitars are damn near indestructible, and there are many, many older and nearly new gems available at a substantial savings.

The other Vaughan guitar is a MIM
not that that's a bad thing but he has a MIM already and he sounded like he was saving for a US model.
That's exactly why mentioned the Jimmie Vaughan model; the OP has a chance to test this MIM model against the MIA models, feel/see/hear the differences and estimate those against one's own preferences.
(I've said this before, for me it ain't the country of origin, it's how a guitar feels, sounds, plays.)
He'd still be comparing Tex-Mex/Noiseless/Texas specials and fat 50's for the hear part, but I definitely see the point of neck/fret differences

BTW, "the other Vaughan" - I bet Stevie is laughing so hard right now that he'll fall from his cloud...

Right on, my bad didn't intend to dis Jimmy/You....or your comment to the quality of MIMs. But if Stevie got a good laugh, maybe it was worth the brevity.

Thanks for the info.im not hung up on a signature model.thats why I'm coming to you guys for advice.im just in a position to buy a new guitar and would like a fender with either a v shape or bigger oval such as the srv model.i also played a kotzen tele that has a sweet fat neck.it seems that the guitar shops have more signature models hanging on the walls for sale than some of the ones your suggesting..$$. It will be at least a few weeks until I can get back into the city do I'm going to keep an eye out for used ones in the mean time also..cheers.

I believe it is a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. The fingerboard is also a compound radius so may, or may not, suit.
You're right about the fingerboard. Wow, that 1st post was a lot wrong rereading it today. Its only 200-300 cheaper than the EC/SRV models, too.

I didn't even mention the 50's/60's/Roadworn classic series/players, which are also a soft V/full C and about half the price of the Signature US model guitars.
