hi, i came across this guitar dubbed as an american deluxe, which has the contoured back heel, an lsr roller nut, headstock without string-trees, but also single coil in the bridge (instead of the HSS configuration), and normal strat switching (instead of the S-1 switching), and alder body, the pickup set is supposed to be a seymour duncan SSL-1 vintage,

this guitar came out of the fender factory or is it a modded one ?
p.s. it does have serial numbers

If you post a picture or two I'm sure one of our resident Strat experts will be happy to help you out. Alternatively you can send an email to ConsumerRelations@fender.com with the serial number and they can provide you with a spec sheet.

+1

Photos may help a lot in order to determine if it's a pre-2010 or post-2010 model. Post-2010 American Deluxes are recognizable from the white & black pearloid position dots on the fretboard, "force" switch and compound radius necks.

It's likely possible someone has modded this guitar by removing the S1 switch and swapping out the original HSS guard for an SSS replacement.

Solid advice. Saves all the guessing.

"Rare" is a bit of a relative term in respect of Strats. Because they are designed to have parts swapped around rare is perhaps best used to describe an older Strat with all it's original parts. Something with an unusual specification would only be rare if that was how it left the factory and they didn't make many of them, otherwise its a 19xx or 20xx MiA and no more, or less, desirable as a result.

Even if it is all original, it is only more desirable to those who want that exact specification otherwise it is just a chassis which may, or may not, get different parts mounted to it. Some elements (such as the roller nut) may actually make it less desirable to anyone except those who specifically want that particular feature.

There is a rider to the above in respect of a Custom Shop or Signature guitar (? Jeff Beck but wrong PUP's) - but then originality is key to it maintaining its added value. Or if it has rock solid provenance as having been owned by someone famous.

So, in summary, I would look at it as a Strat of X vintage and no more or less "rare" than any other Strat of that age. I don't like roller nuts and, not being reversible as far as I am aware, this would make it less desirable to me and perhaps other purists, thus it may devalue the guitar rather than increase its value. Hardtails are "rare" in so far as there weren't as many made as Strats with Trems but they are only more desirable to those who want a Hardtail.

Photos would be helpful. That being said Fender normally does not use Seymour Duncan single coil pickups like the SSL-1. I suspect that someone had an HSS American Deluxe and modded it with a loaded pickguard that had SSL-1s.

Fender does use Duncans one some models - they currently use them on Malmsteen Strat (since Yngwie has and endorsement deal with Duncan to make his pickups) and the Custom Shop Gilmour Strats have Duncan SSL-5 bridge pickups. They have used other Duncan pickups over the years - but outside of the import Lite Ash models they have stayed away from vintage-style Duncan single coil pickups like the SSL-1.

sorry i couldn't upload pictures to the forum, but this is the link, its an ebay style of seller market,
the certificate says AM DLX STRAT HSS... so that would be an inconsistency with the three single coils pictured ?

i also emailed Fender to Consumer relations, thank you

The guitar did not leave the factory with the current scratchplate and pickups.

I did the same thing to mine, as I didn't particularly like the humbucker (no character) or the S1 switching options (I found with use that I prefer the simple options on a standard strat) or the passing lane button ('cos I don't particularly like the humbucker).

I ended up fitting a fully loaded scratchplate and keeping the original as supplied for easy reinstallation at a later date.

I'd be interested in learning what Fender Consumer Relations have to say...but you probably know as much as there is......without being able to play it first.

...it looks like a Good guitar to me...frets seem new..contour heel...and I happen to like the LSR nut...TSA locking case...nice strap...deluxe pop-in whammy bar...locking tuners...

...hope it's still available when you decide...what currency are they using?...if it was US$...I'd jump on it...

Good Luck VSPA

It says "Publicación finalizada" on the page, so if I understand my chilespanish correctly, the sale has already ended.

It may be an idiomatic phrase meaning "final listing".

Español in Chile is a bit different than the Mexican dialect I'm familiar with.
