Cool, I was yet to see a fight here at FFs and this one was close enough. Too bad I was late to the party and didn’t get to microwave popcorn.

Anyway, in my experience Strats don’t really need straplocks or anything other than a good quality leather-end strap in decent condition.

Some guitars like Les Pauls do have a strap button angle that seems to me made to slip off on purpose. Maybe they were a sitting down guitar to begin with when old Polfuss designed them.

Strats aren’t so. Mine stay put and don’t need nothing.

If you feel like your strap is shabby and won’t hold it properly, AND don’t want to get a new one, just get the Fender Strap Blocks and you’re safe.

I only brought that old post up because I search before starting a new thread.

If you bump an old thread, someone is sure to yell "WHY DID YOU NECROBUMP THIS THREAD?"
If you start a new thread, someone is sure to yell "WE ALREADY HAD THIS TOPIC, WHY DIDN'T YOU USE SEARCH?"

It's a lose-lose scenario, but I don't know why people take these things so seriously. I think it's fine to do either one. All this dogma and "Thou shalt NOT..." is off putting.

Ya, I've always installed Schaller locks on my new guitars, but it's always been more for convenience than any fear of dropping. It makes it easy to pop the straps on and off... even though every guitar has its own strap, they still come off when the guitar goes in the case.

Grumpy hat back in it's box...bad grumpy hat.

My Fenders seem to have two distinct strap buttons - the conical vintage type and the more rounded "modern" (if 90's can be deemed modern) type.

A nice new hard leather strap end can be a right so'n'so to get on the vintage type strap button so I have no concern over them coming off in the short term. I say short term as, with use and time, our favourite straps become soft and stretched.

The more rounded strap buttons are a bit more of a liability and perhaps need a little extra security from day one.

I favour the silicone washer approach. You can get a whole bunch of them off Amazon in colours to compliment your strap, or guitar, for next to nothing. They are reasonably easy to put on and the silicone grips the metal for extra piece of mind.

I did have a set of Fender rubber washer strap lock things but regret their performance did not reflect their comparative premium price. They were fine when new but started to crack and split after relatively few years use.

Yeap, I was referring to those classic conic buttons... btw I never really understood why people switched them for those round ones that indeed slip too easily.

Same here with me...this is the best way to go as far as I am concerned.
Schaller's have always been my favorites.

Another vote for Schaller's, ALL my guitars have them.

And yet another.
All mine as well.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I use Proline strap locks. They are $19.95, come in black, gold or nickel and the mounting rings screw into the existing holes that the original strap pins screw into. I also transfer the original felt washer over and put the original pins in the case with that guitar. I did have one of the lock spring pins break although the lock did not fail and Proline replaced it, no questions asked, through Guitar Center where I bought it.
