a few times, i've unscrewed the strap buttons, and then screwed them on OVER the strap.
so the strap is screwed on to the guitar

Yeah
The idiea of using washers is cheap, reliable and you can be very creative.
I mean try to use silver coin, old medal or whatever you thing will make you happy every time you look at your strap button

I have an Am Std Strat w/ schaller straplocks and I've had a problem with them in the past. After using my strat for several gigs, I discovered that my strap buttons had come loose in the wood. No matter how I tried screwing them in, they would remain loose. I ended up having to put broken toothpicks and wood glue in the holes to fix the problem. Unfortunately, it's not a permanent solution. I've had to do this several times over the years.

You can make rubber washers to put over your strap and button. It's worked for
me for decades and never a dropped guitar.

Or buy these :

Yea well, it's a long story that only the veterans on here know about. During my cancer years I had a LOT
of free time. I've been on here longer than most. There's so much more I could say but anyone who knows
me already knows the story.

I only brought that old post up because I search before starting a new thread. Those rubber
end washers work great for those seeking alternatives.

I kind of like seeing some of those old names again that I had forgotten all about.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

If you bump an old thread, someone is sure to yell "WHY DID YOU NECROBUMP THIS THREAD?"
If you start a new thread, someone is sure to yell "WE ALREADY HAD THIS TOPIC, WHY DIDN'T YOU USE SEARCH?"

It's a lose-lose scenario, but I don't know why people take these things so seriously. I think it's fine to do either one. All this dogma and "Thou shalt NOT..." is off putting.
