I don't do anything special to prolong the life of the strings on my guitars, and I don't change them all that frequently.
I might put 2 or 3 fresh sets a year on either of my Strats, and other guitars don't get a new set until there's string breakage, which means that a set can stay on for a very long time indeed.

Jeez, I know it's a matter of personal preference, but now I don't feel like such of a slacker for only changing strings once a month or so on my less frequently used electrics!
The ones I use more often, the Strat and the Danny, may get two a month or more, depending upon use and humidity. Acoustics of course last much longer.
But again, it's personal preference. For me, when strings start to sound dull, whether they still keep in tune or not, it's time for a change.
When you buy cases, the price goes way down-ordering straight from Markley I can get a case of 10 for well under $40.

My Les Paul still has the original strings and I've had it for several years! Then again if I added up all the time, I'm sure I've played it less than 10 hours. It just sits in the case while I play my Fenders so why bother?

Instead of replacing the saddles, you could easily move(swap) the two saddles to strings that are wound.

If you're getting grooves in your saddles imo it comes down to metal hardness;
strings being a harder type than the saddles will result in the saddles wearing.
Or
If your strings are breaking easily they may be to soft or to light a gauge vs the hardness of the saddles.

x2 on the sweat issue, not everybody produces toxic runoff but some of us do.

I'll second that suggestion. Swap the saddles for the strings that are breaking with 2 that aren't.
If the E and G strings stop breaking but the strings riding on their old saddles start, then replace those 2 saddles. If the problem goes away then even better.

Saddles are cheap. If you think it might be the saddles then swap them. At least you then know that issue is covered.

Thanks for all the feedback I really appreciate it.

I use 12-16-24-38-48-58 Ernie Balls tuned to E or Eb depending on what the music is.. I never wipe the strings down.. I usually just play until I cannot play anymore. I have never had this problem before! The string breaking started to happen weeks ago and it was driving me NUTS.

lomitus - I also have always thought they were very "gimmicky" and thus I was very sceptical of what I was actually getting.. Promising more sustain and tonal differences..

Let me tell you; these things are awesome. I got these PG-8000-F0 .. First I just thought about doing only the e B and D strings with the Graph-tech saddles because those were the string I am breaking. but after a while I changed them all out.

HONESTLY what I feel about these saddles that DIFFFERS them from the old ones is that the tuning is ALOT more stable and I havent broken a string YET.. Been playing with the same set for 5 days now and they are still going strong. *Knocks on wood*

I have not experienced a change in tone which is a relief because I have settled with a sound now and would not like to have it changed.

+ String lasts longer (let me get back after a month)
+ Tuning stability
+ Longer height screws! The old screws wasnt long enough for the action I wanted, but these gives possibilities for more action!
+ Looks discrete.

- Doesnt look authentic.
- The hex screw they include isnt very good.. I stripped it! Glad I had more.
That is the only drawback I can honestly think of. I wouldnt put these on a time-machine strat or a Custom-shop.

I recommend these.
