Well, in summary, OP was offered and absolute killer of a deal on a US Strat - under a year old, mint condition, for 70% list but didn't buy it because the neck was slightly shinier than his Wolfgang Special and therefore not fit for purpose.

I know now why my playing is so poor - I've spent the last 21 years wrestling with a '93 MiA Strat with a neck so glossy you can see you reflection in it (I even gave it a dose of T Cut yesterday for good measure). If only I'd bought a Wolfgang Special I'd be a Guitar God by now. :(

Mint condition and original owner taking 30% loss. Too bad he didn't leave the guy's number.
After all, I have all this money I was saving up to buy a SRV Signature Model so I could sound just like him.

Well for what you pay for a Custom Shop David Gilmour Strat I assume it has already been taught the entire Pink Floyd catalogue. It must be a pain if you want to play some Clapton though.

The great thing about the SRV is it can also play Hendrix, so that makes it pretty good value.

I think I'm going to get an Eric Johnson though as then I will be able to play ******* everything. I wonder how glossy his neck is?

My '01 Clapton Strat keeps telling me that I'm playing his songs all wrong. It should know. I'm dying to get an Andy Summers Telecaster so I can learn how to play Police songs. Wait a minute, I already do.

The first thing I notice is the truss rod plug...is it brown wood, black plastic, or no plug. Many sellers and their guitars creditability can easily be eliminated right there.

Good call on the walnut truss rod opening, but saddly, I think the original poster is long gone. This thread appears to be going along of its own. We're mainly poking fun at signature model guitars and how they don't make you a living legend.

As in buying any guitar, beware of it speaking to you. I have found
this situation where it sends subliminal messages to you saying
"buy me" a lot. Don't just buy any guitar, go for the fit, feel, playability,
sound and authenticity and most of all...follow your heart. :D

That's why I put tin foil under my ball cap, to block those messages. Otherwise I would have a lot of guit.......wait a minute, the tin foil isn't working. :x

Well, John admitted that his playing was poor so he should have bought a Wolfgang Special - I'm sure my playing is just as poor(or worse) but would rather play like SRV than Wolfgang. Now I learn that buying a SRV Sig model isn't going to make me play like him? Devastating news!
