Nice guitar! It looks a lot like mine. 8)

See the last code in the list next to your pic, the one that has IMG beside it? If you copy that code and paste in your post, the pic will show directly in your post instead of just a link to it.

Hi there,
Everything suggest it's an original American Standard Strat with newer fat 50 pickups.
The pickguard screws positions are correct, the 2 point tremolo with bent steel saddles is correct, the pickups poles are staggered and they look to be beveled too which is expected in the fat 50. The pickups cover and tone knobs are aged white, this confirms that the guitar is one of the newer with fat 50. They switched to Fat 50 in March/April 2012 so there are 2012 models with older features out there.
All what I can see from the neck suggests me nothing but original.

I did a deep research before I pulled the trigger on an used 2012 Am Std Strat, so I'm quite sure about what I wrote above.

Plenty of pictures in the net as well, just make a search around.

Cheers!

I have both gloss and satin necks and while I prefer the satin neck I wouldn't consider a gloss neck enough of a down side to walk away from a cracking guitar at a killer price. :-(

Doh!!!

The 2012 Am Std Strat has a satin finish on the back of the neck, and it's a 9.5" radius.

Please read my last post again before making disparaging comments!!! The -71 strat has a glossy neck with a 7,25" radius and the standard strat has to me a semi-glossy neck compared to my other guitars with satin necks.

The one you didn't buy has a 9.5" radius, so your original comment regarding neck radius was irrelevant.

Satin is like grey - there are many shades. As I mentioned, I can cope with any. I am disappointed that Fender don't make the exact % of satin that you need (it is % gloss or % matt to be entirety accurate).

Fillers aside higher % matt finishes will become polished over time, with use. The less matt the more resilient the finish will be to change.

I filmed a video on paint preparation on matt cars. If the garage puts the wrong wax on a matt car (there are now matt waxes) the only solution is to strip and repaint the car.

I hope no one gets wax on the necks of your guitar as, apparently, it will render it useless.

OK, I'm guessing this has something to do with age, some Fender aspects need a little maturing. (Like, e.g. I see in the future a compulsory switch from EVH's to Esquires...)

Indeed so. I am certainly too old to be strapping on a Wolfgang Special (I didn't know such a beast existed until this thread). Having now seen one I have no desire to try it.

Wow! Why did the OP edit and remove all his posts?

Do I detect some anger?

Thank goodness He can't edit the quotes, but I would still like to have seen all of his responses.

Well, in summary, OP was offered and absolute killer of a deal on a US Strat - under a year old, mint condition, for 70% list but didn't buy it because the neck was slightly shinier than his Wolfgang Special and therefore not fit for purpose.

I know now why my playing is so poor - I've spent the last 21 years wrestling with a '93 MiA Strat with a neck so glossy you can see you reflection in it (I even gave it a dose of T Cut yesterday for good measure). If only I'd bought a Wolfgang Special I'd be a Guitar God by now. :(

Man, after 21 years haven't you learned that all you have to do is buy the same guitar that your favorite rock star was paid to endorse, and you'll sound just like him overnight?
Well, after you also buy his favorite amp, and strings, and pedals, and cords, and picks, and straps, possibly a similar haircut and wardrobe, and maybe try dating his girlfriend's cousin...you'll be right there!

Such wisdom. If only I'd been given these words of advice all those years ago. :D.

I'm not sure how my dearly beloved will feel about me dating my heroes girlfriends cousin though. And just to clarify - is it the cousin of the girlfriend/wife at the time of the record you are trying to master, or based on current relationships. This may be a little awkward as more and more of my heroes are now dead.
