I just saw that John Page is making an affordable stratocaster style guitar(1200 dollars but atleast its not 5k) with the bridge pickup slanted opposite of what a normal strat has. He is trying to get the Jimi Hendrix sound as that was the position of the bridge pickup when he played a right handed strat left handed. Can some one at Fender please do the same with either the MIM classic players 60s or an American standard with custom 69 pickups. I would definitely buy one and I bet a lot of other people would too.

You'd need a lefty neck on it too to get the string tension more like that of a Hendrix style guitar.
Can't see Fender sanctioning that one with MiM, so I suggest taking a look at Warmoth guitars and building your own.

Seems like bridge pickups are slanted the way they are for a reason. Bridge pickups don't get as much string vibration because they are closest to where the strings is anchored to the bridge. That's the main reason why bridge pickups are wound hotter - otherwise you'd have to readjust the volume to compensate for drops/swells everytime you hit the switch to change pickups. Balanced sets give you consistent volume when switching from one pickup to another. Gibson and I think Gretsch both had times where they used the exact same pickups for neck and bridge but was ok since they also had separate volume control. And the fatter the string the more it is effected by the closeness to it's anchoring point. Seems like the slant is meant to provide balance between the strings to compensate for the lower vibration of fat strings that close to the bridge.

I have no idea how wide of a field the poles of a pickup have but if it is narrow and focused under a fat string just an inch or so from where it anchors into the bridge then it doesn't seem like the pickup would have much string vibration to work with. In theory it seems like a normal slant gives you better volume balance among the strings because the heavier strings whose vibration is more affected by the closeness to it's anchors point has it's pole further away from that anchor where the string vibrates a bit more. Reversing the slant should do the exact opposite, making each string progressively louder as you go from the low E to the high E because not only are you going to a thinner string each time but also going to a string that has it's pickup pole further away from the anchor where the string vibrates more. Then again, maybe that is the goal and a key to Jimi's sound.

It seems like a lot of trouble to go to, and potentialy compromises a perfectly good guitar, to achieve what might be an a almost imperceptible subtlety in tone. And considering a great deal of tone comes from the fingers are you really saying you are that good that this tiny difference could bridge the gap?

.....of course you could just buy a lefty Strat and string it up the other way.

And, my understanding is Hendrix predominantly used the neck or middle PUP. Thats certainly the prescribed way to get a Hendrix sound from a good number of sources I've seen, and what works best for me...but I'm not very good.
