My First Strat is Classic Player ' 60 ' s. I like the pickups. Expecially now that I am playing through a Blues Junior. I was wondering about the "Custom Shop Designed" pups, what are these closest too? I am wondering if they are like Tex-Mex pups?

I haven't had a chance to listen to the Tex-Mex ones and I have been wondering?

Custom 69s, not quite like any other Fender pups.

I feel your pain. I have often considered changing PUPs but the cost, and inconvenience, of making the wrong choice has put me off.

The other thing is even having the reference point to know what you want or don't want. Easy if you have many guitars to compare and can establish a favourite but not so if your only point of reference is specification.

You just got the Blues Junior and you are already thinking of changing things around ??
Between the Classic Player and the Blues Junior you have quite a lot of experimentation to find the tones available. Those pups are quite capable. But you could do a very simple and inexpensive mod which you can reverse.

Switch both of your tone pots to TBX tone pots and rewire so that each tone pot can dually control Neck and Mid or Mid and Bridge. Also with a Push Pull pot in the volume or a superswitch you could rewire so that you have all 7 pup combinations. The current 5 plus neck&bridge and neck/mid/bridge.

You could ask Martian on this one or Xhefri.

Also the TBX are basically a stacked double tone potentiometer. A mid point detente at 0. In one direction you increase bass tonality and in the other you increase treble tonality. But unlike a traditional pot it doesn't affect the other tone, so in a sense they are similar to an EQ.

Umm...at the risk of sounding terribly obtuse, if you like the pickups...why would you want to change them? Is there a specific reason or a specific sound you're chasing or is this simply a matter of GAS?

That question aside, my suggestion would be to simply drive to as many music stores as you can and play the instruments with the pickups that you're interested in (such as a Jimmy Vaughn Sig Series with those Tex-Mex pickups you mentioned)...and take your own guitar with you as a point of reference. While pickups do tend to sound different in different guitars (from my experience at least), this will give you a better idea of what you may be looking for compared with random guessing.

.....of course, if it is simply a matter of GAS, do be forewarned that doing this could exacerbate the condition considerably 8) .

Guys, I am afraid that I didn't explain myself very well.

I like my guitar's features. The pups, the neck feel, etc. I am not in love with the color or the truss rod set up.

If another guitar in the multitude of Fender Stratocasters had similar sounding pups with a standard truss rod set up and fret board radius I would consider switching it out for said guitar.

I would say that I would have a difficult time with that gold metal flake color.
You could always play Liberace Covers

Lol!

I think that it would look great with a root beer colored clear coat over it. If I knew someone who could do that for me I would have that done. It would be sharp.
