Hey guys, need some advice. I have the staggered alnico 2's from seymour Duncan in neck and middle of my hss strat which I really like. I'd like some thoughts on what humbucker you guys would put in. I want the humbucker to sound good with the single coils when split. I want the vintage tones but a bucker that can also scream. I can get a Tony Iommi humbucker cheap but I doubt they would go well together With 250k pots?

On an HSS the humbucker doesn't usually go through a tone pot anyway so not an issue. If you want to use tone control for the bridge they do sell stacked pots - 250k and 500k stacked up. Just need to wire the split circuit to the 250k and full humbucker to the 500k.

I plan on having s1 switching in the guitar. So the only thing I would have to do is keep the humbucker away from the 250 middle/bridge tone and wire it to the 500 stacked pot so that will serve as bridge tone?

I'm not that familiar with S-1 switching but don't see why it wouldn't work. Usually guitars with split-coil option use a 250k pot based on the fact that most people feel a humbucker going through 250k sounds better than singlecoils going through 500k pots(although I know of one member who prefers to run all his singlecoils through 500k). Is a compromise situation. With stacked 250k/500k pots you don't have to compromise - you wire it so that when in singlecoil mode you go through the 250k and when in full humbucker mode you go through the 500k.

Martian has a mod to make 500k pots work like 250k when you split the coils and it might be a better option. Whether either one will work with S-1 Switching is beyond me but don't see a problem.
