I would like to try out the Jeff Beck & Knfoler signature Strats.I don't find any store that carries it in the DC area.Where can I find one to check it out? Also if anyone owns them or have used them please let me know your opinion & the specs on it.
Thanks.

Hi, Jesuscares – I played a Knopfler once in a store. That is an instrument built around the Sultans sound: get rid of your pick, set it “in-between”, and if you still can’t get that early Straits sound it’s down to you. I found it a very nice guitar with such an attractive combination of features it seems a bit surprising that it hasn’t become more of a mainstream purchase, like the EC or EJ. (Though the 7.25 ‘board might give you a bit of surprise, if you’re not accustomed to that radius.) I didn’t buy it only because I favour maple rather than RW fingerboards, so I did some cosmetic tweaking of a 50s reissue instead.

Another point of interest, I’m sure I remember reading Knopfler saying as a kid he hankered after a Flamingo Pink Strat but couldn’t afford it. So it is curious that his sig is Hot Rod Red instead. Perhaps he didn’t want it mistaken for a Hank Marvin…

Other people’s thoughts are to be found on this recent thread:

Searching a bit further back will find you threads on Jeff Beck’s sig, too. I have no personal experience of that one – ‘cept seeing him play it, of course.
