Hi everyone. About a year ago I bought a Used 2008 FSR American Deluxe HSS Mahogany Strat from Guitar Center. It was my first upgrade after playing a Squier for 3 years. I love my Deluxe and it beautifully plays everything. I've been playing and gigging with a band for 2 years. From styles ranging from David Gilmour to Matthew Bellamy, I've always loved the use of Tremolo while playing. When I bought my Strat, Guitar Center through in a Fender Tremolo (I'm not sure what kind); it did not fit into my bridge. A couple months ago I thought I'd try another Tremolo so I bought a Fender Ultra/Deluxe Stratocaster Snap-In Tremolo. After trying to force the arm into my bridge with as much force as I could, it did not fit.

Is there something wrong with my guitar? Is there something inside the bridge that needs to be adjusted? Am I doing something wrong?

I'm new at this kind of stuff and any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a adjusting set screw on the tremolo bloc to hold arm in place , remove the back plate and ......

That is the one for the deluxe bridge which seems the same is the one you have.
Remove the trem cover and identify the bridge.
The deluxe has shiny modern saddles and two grub screws on the bridge block.
These are on the back of the block right rear when viewed via the back trem cavity.
If you have this type of bridge and arm then do as stratele52 suggests.
The arm may take a litlle pressure to insert but not too much!
If you dont have the grub screws you may have the normal standard bridge which takes the screw in type.
If you have the correct bridge but still have problems there is a slight possibilty the hole in the block and the bridge base plate are not quite aligned. If this prevents the bar from going in you have to remove the bridge saddles loosen the plate and realign it to match up with the hole in the block. Misalignment is pretty obvious by just looking down the hole :D

There is no wiggle room to align the arm holes in the block and plate, with three countersunk mounting holes in the plate, it will only have one position when the mounting screws are tightened. However, you can separate the plate and block, then screw in the arm, then reassemble the bridge. As long as you don't remove the arm again......

I own one of these guitars, the deluxe snap in trem arm is correct.

Great guitar, but a bit heavy. :)

I hate to contradict you shimmilou you are correct the holes in the bridge plate are countersunk but there is enough slack to readjust the alignment. I have done this on at least two strats purchased new as well and it does not take much to rectify the issue . :D

I'm certainly no expert on MIA's however just a thought here...

Since the OP said the guitar was purchased used...are we sure the trem block hasn't been replaced or possibly even damaged? Might explain a lot as sometimes ya never know what you're gonna get with a used instrument.

As I said, just a thought...

I remember the first time I had a guitar with a pop in arm I was surprised at how much force it took to pop it in and take it out. I've gotten used to it but I still think they're a little on the stiff side.

I've not encountered one with the misalignment sometimes mentioned on this board.

lomitus makes a valid point.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
