All guitars have tone, some better than others.
You can debate on bodies, but the way to look at tone, the common denominator electric or acoustic is the neck.
If you switch bodies like I have, the tone doesn't change that much, it makes for a game changer, it redefines the debate on tone.
Good tone will make for a guitar that responds to whatever you want to do with your fingers.
Bad tone will make your fingers bleed as the strings will fight against finger pressure.
The ideal result should feel as if you were gently squeezing out the notes.

Not sure if you put a original '60 strat neck on a American Standard it will sound like or as good than the '60 Strat

IMO it is all important ; neck , body ,wood ,pickups

And bridge! IMO bridge is second biggest factor - a close second to the pickups.

The guitar is a system, the sum of the parts makes the whole.

Well said. I would add that a very important part in the sum is on the other end of the guitar cable: the amp.

Cheers!

Well said !!!

I can almost kinda go with the neck factor as being the biggest "playability" component in the system.
I have some guitars with necks that I just can't navigate as easily as others.

+100

A poor guitar will sound better on a good amp than a great guitar on poor amp

IMO The neck, body, head, and ears wood make a difference.

Forget all that stuff. The side fret dot inlays, the #4 phillips head screws and the jack cup in any Strat are clearly the dominant factors. Everything else is absolutely and completely irrelevant!

I'd say it depends on who is holding the Guitar and playing it. I watched a kid walk into the Guitar Center, pick up a low end Squire and made it sound phenomenal....you can argue wood and bridges and strings and...well the list goes on...maybe we should all just practice more and make any guitar in hand sound great. Don't get me wrong...high end equipment dose sound good...but in the hands of a master it makes music you want to hear 8)

If you can sound good using a low-end Squier, imagine how good you would sound using a much better instrument. So, I wouldn't say that it is all in the fingers. I don't believe that SRV, for example, would sound quite the same if he had used a Bullet.

U're all wrong!! All that matters is the nailclippers and a steady hand. The difference in the quality is a matter of life or dead :!:
Seriously: It's all important, even screws, in some way... If it looks bad, you prejudge the instrument as it looks; if a piece of painting is bothering you in the arm, it'll make U playing uncomfortable, etc...
...Gilmour maybe wouldn't be numb
