I cut my teeth on 9.5...so, for some reason, if I try to play anything else---it's almost like starting over.

The three newest guitars that I have, are all 12" radius (no other choice), and it is more difficult for me to do bar chords and thumb-over chords, than on a 9.5" radius. By that I mean I have to try a little harder so as not to mute a string when chording. But, on the plus side, I can get a bit lower action without rattling, and bending strings is a bit easier.

Having small hands (short fingers), I found the compound radius fret board (9.5" - 14") of my 60th Anniversary Commemorative Strat to be ideal for playing ease...

I too have small hands, one of which (my fret hand) gives me a minor problem from time to time.

Before buying my Amn Deluxe, the only Strat I had experience with was my friend's '62 which I always admired. Other than that, I had acoustic 6 and 12 strings.

I desired something that would allow me to play with more ease and the Strat was a no brainer for me.

When I tried out the 9.5" compound neck, however, I had difficulty chording. My salesman had no problem at the time. I don't give up easily, so knowing I could return the guitar within a reasonable time period, I bought that Strat.

I'm glad I did. It wasn't long before I too could play chords. The 9.5" compound isn't perfect for chording, but it does the job quite nicely and the other benefits are worth it. My hands are happy and so are my ears :D
