Hi guys,

I'm after a Strat. Always loved them, and I currently own a Squier Strat which was my first guitar.

I've always held off buying one because of the single coil pickups. As I play mostly hard rock and classic metal I want a set of dual humbuckers in my guitar - as with my current PRS SE.

I always thought this would require me buying a Strat and fitting a replacement scrathplate with the dual humbucker slots - a lot of extra time, money and hassle.

Imagine my joy when I found out there was a guitar made especially with two humbuckers - the HH series and double fat if I'm not mistaken.

The problem is I can't find any info on them, and any shops that do appear to have them in stock are few and far between - my question is are these models still made?

Does anyone have any info on them? I can find loads of Squier HH Strats, but I'm really looking at a full Fender model.

Any info appreciated,

Jim

Well, isn't that interesting: I'm not finding an HH on the Products pages. Perhaps they've been discontinued.

If so, it must have been quite recently. There's several in my 2006 Fender catalogue, in the American Series, for example. The Am Series has just been re-named American Standard and some of the specs changed. Maybe the HH was dropped at that point.

That's very recent, so you can likely still find stock from a few months ago in the shops. Try Google-ing "Fender American Series HH Stratocaster" and see if anything comes up.

Mind you, if you've got a PRS with nice 'buckers on board, why do you want them on a Strat too? Different guitar, different sound, no?

Lot of folks over on the "Re-Evaluating My Strats" thread are going to want to have words with you about putting humbuckers on a Strat. Take cover...

Thanks for that mate, lots of useful info there,

With reference to the PRS question – I just don’t like the neck. It’s big and fat and chunky. I bought the guitar too soon after starting to play, I only had my Squire 6 months before I shelled a few hundred quid on the PRS and I know now it was the wrong choice of guitar for me.

I’ve since played as many guitars as possible, and it’s come down to the Strat shape (because lets face it, Strats are awesome on the eye) and playability, but I simply don’t like the ringy-janglyness of single coils.

I hope I can still get hold of an HH model!

Ah-ha, you're this side of the pond - there's plenty of us about. Then just run that search I mentioned on Google.co.uk: there's stuff coming up, but actually not as much as I'd have expected. The old stock is presumably clearing quite fast, so get your skates on...!

Personally, I'd have thought the neck-type reasons you mention are exactly the right reason for wanting to put humbuckers into a Strat - but there's many hereabouts are going to disagree, in no uncertain terms! Just a friendly heads-up...

Good luck!

Music Street UK has a Strat-O-Sonic... it looks an awful lot like a Stratocaster.

They have a shop in Ripley.

Have you ever considered a Showmaster?

They're not Strats, but they're similar.

double humbuckers Fender strat had been discontinued
if you really want one
grab hold of it when you see one in the guitar store
there are probably still some remaining stock
but will not be there forever
