Ahh the sweet but ripping P90's, everyone should own a guitar with em! Nice score!

The Strat is a real looker for sure and I like the anodized pick guard...that is a keeper...until it starts to wear badly...then go with a classic white with that beauty sunburst. The Tex Mex's should be a good choice for something a bit different, but a set of fat 50's will put you back in the good graces of the Fender Gods...

What surprised me the most about the Aluminum guard was that it isn't conductive and so I had to do the normal grounding.
The Tex mex pickups are clear as a bell , chimey and has one solid low end ! very nice SRV sound in my opinion !

None of my house (built in 1900) has grounded receptacles and so I always battle hum, however the Tex/Mex in between positions do a fair job of stopping it.

That's awesome bb!

I was surprised the first time that I heard the Tex-Mex pups, extremely nice sound. And at half the cost of other sets, they are sure hard to beat. I am very glad that you like them. 8)

Aluminum is very conductive. Aluminum wiring is cheaper than copper, and has to be bigger than copper wire for the same current rating. Which makes me wonder about your pick guard material. Maybe you need to scrape away the coating around the pot mounts for grounding spots. :?:

BTW, using ungrounded outlets can have more severe consequences than just hum, including shock and even death. I have been shocked a few times at places that don't have grounded outlets, when I switched guitars with someone else, touching both guitars at the same time, not funny at all. I would seriously look into getting that problem resolved.

I know Shimmilou, Its on a big list of stuff to fix, thats what happens when you buy a house made 115 years ago.
You would have thought when they upgraded the service years ago they would have added grounded circuits.

But my mortgage was cut in half just in time for the economy in our area to get even worse, if that were possible so.... ya do what ya gotta do !

I couldn't get any readings across that Guard with my meter at all, I assume it's not aluminium ?? or would the anodized coating have something to do with it ?
Even so you would think the holes where the pots mount would be enough contact, or maybe they too were platted ??? weird :?

The Tex-Mex are very Lively and have a very distinct personality that to me lends very well to a pushed to the edge tube amp ! (see my post in Modern Amps Ramparte).
Having played my 50th for the last eleven years with its CS 54 light wound pups, the Tex Mex sound is a welcome change of pace, Vintage wound is the "sound in my head tone" for me however I don't just eat one flavor of Icecream LOL !!!

Can't believe I all I had was a White switch tip :( The aged one from the made in Japan guts wouldn't fit the new USA 5 way , never fear a new one is on the way

You really owe it to yourself to get the best someday and buy some Seymour Duncan Antiquity Texas Hots.

I hear ya ! but before I spend over 230 cash for a set of pickups I would have to hear them and each note would have to draw a tear from my eyes

I have been blessed with some sweet tone making gear and fully understand the "tone Quest" , however I'm pretty dang happy with my bought used for 70 bucks shipped Tex-Mex right now.
The dude sold them as "mint" and they showed up with repaired leads (short) and I almost returned them, but they checked out on my meter and matched Fender's specs for the impedance lead color etc......

I also use the Ernie Ball Rock-N-Roll all strings which have less magnetic attraction that the standard steel strings and that certainly has a greater effect on my tone, I also like the Dr Blues for the same reason.

Hi :) yes they can be expensive because they are hand made by the original crew, not CNC produced in mass quantities. I got mine at Stratosphere on sale for like $200 shipped. I have a set of Texas Specials that I had bridge rewound to a David Gilmour 12.9k and Fat 50s coupled with an Atomic.
I run all my pickups with 500k pots and a Fender pure vintage wax and foil .1 capacitor. So much control and flavor.
Back to what I was saying though, once you play the Antiquity Texas Hots you will want at least on set in a strat. They are heavenly.
