With so many different finishes and scratch plates and knobs there seems to be an almost infinite amount of options for colour combinations ignoring hardware specifications. And there are some colour combinations that just don't seem to work.

As an example I think bronze pick guards look awesome. Unfortunately, I'm still struggling with trying to find a guitar that they look awesome on.

Any road up, to try to quell my curiosity with what looks good, and what doesn't I built a 3D model file ('cos that's what I do) to try different options out.

Many standards, and not so standards, followed including:-

I rather liked this one but couldn't imagine hanging it around my neck.

And then, because I can, I had to :-

I shall now get on to bronze pick guards which was somewhat why it started.

Nice skill to have John...I could've used it many times over

I love the one lower right...a bronze swirl?

The Blue (Ice Metallic?) shouldn't be that hard to wear...

...You just have to balance your Dress and Accessories

On the blue metallic I would just change pup covers, knobs to black, carries the theme from maple fretboard markers..
On the subject of Cad design and all, That is my studies these days.... speaking of which I have Homework due by Tuesday....

LOL, that's about what I thought.

Thanks for your comments. It is very easy to become absorbed in the virtual 3D world with the inevitable, "It would look better if I just added that"...etc. Many hours later....On the plus side, waiting for images to render completely ties down my PC so I get to play guitar while I wait. :-)

The swirl is similar to one of my real Strats but, in the illustration, actually uses a Burr Elm veneer finish I had already configured; having been using it on a rather nice library project.

3D visualisations have become more a more efficient to produce, and more realistic, as years have gone by. Considering the cost of professional photographers (I was paying £60/hr 30 years ago) it surprises me more people don't make more use of visualisations.

I see where you are coming from but rather prefer having all the plastic bits the same. Black knobs, and the like, look a bit stark against white.

But then that's the joy of being able to preview it ;-)

You also could go to Vintage white, which is more of an off white / yellowish tinge. I actually prefer the vintage white to the stark ( as you aptly describe ) white. The vintage white just has that nostalgic feel / look of Bakelite but fortunately none of it's age degradation issues.

I like the wood one (just above and to the right of the red one at the bottom)!

The blue one looks good too, but you'd have to wear all white, or something.

Agreed...I used the Fender Pure Vintage Eggshell Pguard on the Hot Rod Brownie build

...just softens the White a little bit

I just got a Deluxe Strat Plus with maple neck in Mystic Ice Blue. It looks amazing; almost surreal in some ways. It's difficult to doscribe.

Hey thanks Danagos.
Yep they do maybe a bit of an optical illusion but they are big ... they are the standard Fender medium jumbos. :D

Sweet. Still having issues with the bronze pick guards though. I really think the answer is brown plastic parts.

I've tried cream and black and neither really hit the spot for me. Yours works because the white links to the body colour (glad to see you have the correct bridge ;-) ).

And especially for 53magnatone:-

I think I am still preferring the white.

I was thinking the full NASA 60's spec space suit would be the way to go.

Perhaps white plastic parts but red and blue anodized metal work for the full NASA look.
