Hey folks,

If you haven't had a chance to check out the first in our lineup of 10 limited-edition guitars—the American Vintage ’70s Hardtail Strat®—now's your chance! Not only is this throwback instrument equipped with a hardtail bridge, but it also comes with a number of vintage-style appointments and features, including a trio of American Vintage ’70s pickups and a traditional ’70s-style headstock. Check it out in person while you can, as we're only releasing 500 of them.

Take a listen as we take it for a test drive. Thanks all!

The hard tail Stratocaster idea has grown on me. Looks cool and sounds great. Thanks for posting. 8)

I would love to have one of those. Too bad I can't afford it.

Oh, Super. ANOTHER addition to the American Vintage guitar line. Four Strats, Three Teles, plus non-flagship models like the Jazzmaster and Jag. Yet after 33 years we still have only two Precision bass models. No early 50's single coil. No 70's model, or Telecaster Bass II model. While it's always great to see Fender showing love to their history. Why can't the basses get some of that love?

Well this isn't really an American Vintage model. No 70s strat ever came with 22 frets. Where is the 3 bolt neck, bullet truss rod, F tuners? This is pretty much an American Special Hardtail. I was excited when I saw the name but a bit disappointed when I saw the features.

That's sad. Those are the kinds of compromises one expects on the MIM Classic line. (and understandably so given the difference in price) Non-vintage correct appointments like fretboard radius, pick ups, or electronics.

I think the American Vintage line should be for vintage correct recreations. Diluting this line really weakens Fender as a brand. If you can't go to a higher end American made Fender and trust that it's made like a Fender should be then what is left? Ordering everything from the Custom Shop at double the cost? At that point how is Fender any different than any other knock off? Really sad.

Of course, some will embrace it and some won't. As this may be "inspired" by that particular offering from the period, it certainly isn't one of them. FWIW, in actuality, this could be a good thing.

While early 70's Strats had 4 bold necks, without the bullet truss rod, I agree that this Fender "FSR" guitar should not be described as a part of the "American Vintage" line.
The problem is that Fender correctly "headlines" the guitar as a "Limited Edition '70s Hardtail Stratocaster®," but then goes on to describe the guitar "Fender's Limited Edition American Vintage '70s Hardtail Stratocaster" in it's advertisement.
Fender should correct the following advertisement by deleting reference to "American Vintage" from the advertised description of this guitar.

http://www.fender.com/guitars/stratocas ... 70177.html

For a comparison of the appointments of a true 1970-1971 Fender hardtail Stratocaster, go to the following link and scroll down to the bottom of the page of this eBay Strat that "sold" for nearly 7,000 Euros.
