Ok players, what Stratocasters have you installed a neck or bridge position humbucker in? (without modifying the body routing to fit)

Could you please comment with your Strat model and what it's routed for SSS, HSS or HSH (and date if you know).

Any Strat including Squier and Japanese. I will make a reference list here of models that fit, and don't fit neck and bridge humbuckers.

And if you know a certain Strat model won't fit a humbucker in the neck or bridge, mention that too.

I'm aware that only the Classic series Strat bodies are routed SSS. If that is wrong for certain Classic models let me know.

HSH Strat mods are getting more popular, and it's difficult to find real reliable information out there on Fender factory body routings.

I know we can always take a few screws out and peek under the guard with a torch, if we own it already.
But what if we like the vibe of a Strat we are thinking of buying, and maybe modding with a humbucker? What's under the guard? We can't check.

I will make a list on this first post, and update it when you players kindly help out with your valuable info.

Cheers :)

WILL FIT A NECK & BRIDGE HUMBUCKER

American Standard Stratocaster, (swimming pool route) HHH, Serial Numbers "E4XXXXX", 1987 to 1999
American Standard Stratocaster, routed HSH, from 1999/2000
American Deluxe Stratocaster, routed HSH, from 1998
Lone Star Stratocaster, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Roadhouse Stratocaster, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Strat Ultra, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Strat Plus, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Strat Plus Deluxe, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Big Apple Stratocaster, (swimming pool route) HHH, until 1999
Squier Deluxe Stratocaster, routed HSH, 2010
Modern Player HSH Strat

WIL FIT A BRIDGE HUMBUCKER

Deluxe Lone Star Stratocaster, routed HSS, 2012
Highway 1 Anniversary Stratocaster, routed HSS, 2006
Squier Bullet Stratocaster, routed HSS, 2009
Modern Player HSS Strat (no neck H routing)

ROUTED FOR SSS ONLY (NO HUMBUCKER)

Japanese 1968 Reissue Stratocaster, routed SSS, 1995

There are also a couple of Stratocasters (mostly Squiers) which feature bodies routed for HHH (3 humbuckers).

Yeah fully ...the ultimate Tripple Whammy!!! We have to include the HHH routings.

Chromeface you've done more than your share of mods, and more to come :?
Whatever you can add to the list, any morsel will do... 1 or 2 for you?

Below is a strat I built with parts from the Fender Website. The body is a American Standard Ash and routed for HSH. Duncan JB in the neck, DiMarzio ToneZone in the bridge.

Thanks 94sglife for your addition to the list :D That's a delicious looking Strat, well done.

Great choices on humbuckers too, must really sound great.
I have heard so many positives about the Duncan JB in Strats. And I can personally say I'm sweet with the Tone Zone in Bridge, got enough power to split into a nice single coil tone combo. I'm sure the JB has too.
Cheers!

Identical to the American Standard HH except the humbuckers are splittable, the inclusion of a 5-way super switch for coil tap/split and a master volume with two tone controls for both pickups. Bridge is the deluxe type with polished steel block saddles and the neck is the same deluxe style with compound radius, LSR nut and Fender/Ping locking machines.

The white shell guard and black plastic parts add an eye-catching appeal while the LSR nut makes the easyglider string tree redundant.

2006 Anniversary Highway 1 Strat is NOT routed for a neck humbucker. It came with a bridge humbucker, but I switched out to SSS.

Thanks for the pic White Dog... Helps when we know it won't fit a humbucker up front, any routing is interesting to know for this list.

Cool you tweaked it the way you wanted, and that's the best thing about Strats. Versatility. But just how far can we go... is why we can benefit from searching out routing differences.
I can imagine some kind of black guard on that Hwy 1.

I did do mine with a 5way Super switch. Gotta have the coil splits!

I went with aged white pearl, and aged cream pickup covers & knobs. Switched pickup's to Custom Shop Texas specials.

I ended up putting the original loaded pickgaurd out of the Highway 1 into a 2009 Squire Bullet: Image Which also isn't routed for a humbucker in the neck. I DID have to shave out the cavity for the bottom tone pot which was MUCH bigger than the little cheapie's in the original Bullet.

I recently posted the before and after of the Highway 1 here: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=98230&p=1110975#p1110975

Thanks White Dog for the info on the 2009 Squier Bullet and pic, added to list. It would be happy it scored an upgrade from your Highway 1...cheers.

 ...Topic has been updated in title and original post, so players can to add to this list any known factory Strat body pickup routings.

Do you consider the "universal" or "swimming pool" routing to be SSS, HHH or something in between..?

I'm too lazy to dig a list, but here's some info (+ a couple models) on it: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=67555

This is a little gold mine jmattis, good find my friend
I've updated the list with what consistency I could nab from that topic.

According to some valuable info from John C, American Deluxe Strats from 1998 have HSH, and American Standards have HSH from 1999/2000 aprox.

There were other points mentioned that got me ticking over.
Here's some quizzy questions for anyone, that would be cool to confirm, on some series changes and additions...

* There is reference to the American Series started in 2000.
Could this series also include: the American Standard, American Vintage, American Deluxe, American Special?
Could all these have been HSH routings?

* He also mentioned the continuing productions of Lone Star and Roadhouse after 1999 went from swimming pool to HSH. But it changed again.
I have a Deluxe Lone Star 2012 that is HSS routing. That must also have changed from HSH to HSS some time later.
Did the name change at some point from Lone Star to Deluxe Lone Star?

* Also a mention that Vintage Reissues are all SSS. Would this also include the American Vintage and Classic Series '50, '60 and '70, and and Classic Player '50 & '60 ??

Anyway let's add some more to the list... for our buddies that are inspired to MOD!!
So far some great help coming along here. :D
There still remains many questions under those guards.

Here's a small glimpse(*) to that section:
Fender had the "American Standard" model from 1987 to 1999. Then they dropped the "Standard" name in 2000, so the model was called just "American" - usually in aficionado talk that's "American Series", just to emphasize the "these-are-not-called-American-Standard" aspect. The "American Standard" was introduced again in 2008.
In this sense, the Deluxes, AVRI's and Specials are "American" but not "American Series" - simple ain't it..?

(*) E.g. John C is a wizard (of course, along with many other forum members) in this area, my knowledge is just scratching the surface...

I tip my hat for your effort in cataloguing all Strat models to their factory stock routings.
BTW, I'd guess the swimming pool is the only stock routing where one could put three slanted humbuckers (or P90's) into, if one's into that kinda kinks.
