Personally, I liked the Highway One oems, but imho they were not the classic or vintage single coils I wanted. Fender took them in a different direction with distortion-friendly Alnico IIIs, trying to preserve the cleans also. I thought they were okay, but not exactly what I wanted. Once I swapped them out for Custom Shop Tx Specials, I got exactly what I wanted. The many great qualities of the Highway One guitar are in my opinion taken to the next level with the CS TX Spc pickups I've got now.

you know if you dont like the sound of the pickups, you can change them out.
im researching what sound i want and which pickups can achieve that.

im looking at lace sensors gold, emg 20 david gilmours, cs 69, cs 54 ,
and dimarzio area 58 or 67 and 61
i d ont really know. i love the warm sound of vintage blues. my choice right now is cs 69s, im not sure if they hum alot, well that doesnt matter much. however i want to purchase a prewired pickguard.

I have been listening to samples of lindy fralins and to me they sound to trebley and shrill. I like the sound of Kinman pickups with a warmer sound. I'll do some listening to the cs 69's and see how they sound. It's tuff not having access to all of these to do a side by side comparison and actually hear them first hand. I guess thats why we have blogs, so more seasoned musicians can offer their insight. Thanks for all the advice!!!

Highway One is a great guitar, although the ones I have played around here don't seem to be up to the standards that highwayoneplayer & others have described or experienced. Every guitar AND player is different though. So maybe it's just me.
I'm getting a new 08 Amer standard hss (sienna, ash body, no S-1) over the highway one. This was not a rash quick choice...
I played them all & did alot of research. (ask the salesman) lol
After I spend more time with it & change the pickups
(or not or whatever else I do) I know it's definately the right choice for me.

If Nozzle28 is going to change out his bridge, is there any special considerations he has to take due to the fact that fender set those hwy1s up with (the newer ones) narrower string spacing on the bridge (saddles)?
(They did that in order to compinsate for the large frets)

In response to the string spacing question on the bridge, Callaham has a special bridge for the Hwy1 because of the difference. I belive the screws are spaced 2 7/8 and the strings are 2 1/16. I already have mine, I just havent got around to installing it.
