I just bought a Callaham bridge assembly for my 06 Hwy1. I've heard that the difference in tone and sustain is amazing (at $175 I hope so!). Has anyone else made this upgrade or played a Strat with a Callaham bridge? Also they sell Lindy Fralin Special winds that have been cryogenically treated and they say It makes a huge improvement on tone. If anyone has a set of these I would love to see a demo on youtube.

I did put Custom Shop 69 pickups in for someone and they could not believe the sound. They are Abigail Yberra windings marked with a birth date and all. They are height staggered alnico 5's and the gray bobbins.

I'm not sure about the pickups yet. Maybee I'm modding just for the sake of it but I'll get the bridge on and then make up my mind then. My wife says I have more fun modifying my guitars the playing them and maybee she's right! Anyway I plan on doing a before and after video for every change so I can compare the differences.

The pickups in th HWY1 are nice but they do not have a warm old school sound but they can push a high gain sound through a pedal or tube.

They are nice and can pump a tube amp nicely but they do not have that vintage sound when playing clean.

You need Vintage single coils for that sound. That why I think Fender put that greasebucket circut in their to control the tone of the bridge pickup instead of the the middle one it cuts back on the high end stuff. This is not the normal Strat wiring system. As time goe by I may learn some more on them but I have only worked on two of these.

I'm not a fan of the Highway One pickups, designed by the Custom Shop or not.

When I was shopping for a Strat, the Highway One was "dead." The Deluxe Players, with the Vintage Noiseless, had a distinctive sound.

I guess the point is "different strokes for different folks" perhaps the HWY 1 is not for everyone. Don't get offended.
We understand that you are very happy and loyal to your HWY 1 and that's all that should matter to you. I prefer the Tex Specials to the Alnico III's, but that is just my preference. If someone prefers something else that is fine. But play it before you buy it.

I didn't say line was dead, I meant that they sounded dead.

In all honesty, it sounded just like my Squier Strat. The Deluxe, with the Vintage Noiseless, was leaps and bounds better for me.
