hello

Please take a moment to help with a two-fold goal (model #0113002-747):

1) What I would like to accomplish on the new American Standard Strat here is to raise the bridge--all the strings--to the preferred height for a certain playing style. As the allen screws provided are too short, though, would you know of a resource for long allen screws I might purchase?

2) What we are attempting is to remove the pickguard--to reveal the fine wood grain. Are there female threaded 'posts' (lack of better term) that we can then secure the pick-ups to the guitar once the pickguard is removed? Ideally, a half-inch or so threaded female 'stem' that may be, e.g., epoxied inside the pick-up recess and then screw the two pick-up support screws to them. The pick-ups will never be adjusted (moved) once secured to the guitar.

thank you

Dean Taylor

Funny you got no answers...

OK, the screws: the originals should be imperial 4-48 thread 5/16", part# 0075384000 (or 0075536000 for 9/32"). You can find longer replacements in hardware/electronic etc. stores. This is just the first result on a google search: Socket Set Screw - Cup Point

Your second queston is still a bit vague - and IMHO a Strat ain't pretty under the pickguard...
Anyway, I'm thinking some kind of a female-threaded base plate plus springs on the pickup screws would still give you the height adjusting option...

One extra note: depending on how much higher you want the saddles, it could be a good idea to shim the neck backwards, too.

Have you actually had the pick guard off to have a look under there?

Not only does it locate the PUPs but also the volume and tone pots and selector switch. And it shields the electronics.

What you are suggesting using are sleeve bolts (like they use on hand saw handels and self assembly furniture). They won't work as the PUPs will rock on their mounting bolts as the guard helps hold them in place.

It's just not practical on so many levels.

If you really think it looks nice get a clear acrylic pick guard. You will loose the shielding but at least it will be a practical solution.

Or get an after market rear routed body designed to be assembled without a pick guard.

Are you sure you aren't trying to get your April 1st post in early?

You can change the overall height of the bridge assembly up by lifting the pivot screws. But then you will need to lift the PUPS to get them at the correct spacing again, so you won't be achieving much aside increasing the spacing over the frets closer to the body.

If you are looking to convert the Strat for slide use fit a higher nut (or shove a pencil under the strings).

The OP hasn't returned to post again, so I'm not sure how to take the question.
That's my reason for not posting a response.
If the OP gave more insight into what they want to achieve then they might get a lot more respondants.

How's about it Dean Taylor?
What are you trying to achieve?
