It's not what the logo on the headstock might suggest.
It's a fake, and not a particularly good one.

Don't see a serial number anywhere on the headstock. A Fender sticker on a plain aftermarket neck?

can you please elaborate? the guitar is being advertised as a genuine Fender parts guitar. if the parts are indeed Fender, why would it be considered fake?

Fender did not manufacture that neck. That said, the entire instrument becomes suspect. A full disassembly and inspection of every single part would be required to ascertain its precise pedigree, which I suspect would prove it to be a non-so-skillfully-assembled clone.

But go ahead and buy it. Offer four hundred. Hell, make it five!

You've been warned, make of that what you will.

As long as it is advertised as a "partscaster" with genuine Fender parts, and actually HAS all-Fender genuine parts, then there is nothing wrong with it. But the price should be reflective of this. Partscasters don't command the money that real Fender production guitars will.

Not doubting you, but how do you know?

That's easy, look at the twelfth fret dot spacing.

There are Squiers with that spacing, but none had the Fender decal, therefore it has been faked, making the whole thing suspect.

No skunk strip, odd rounding on the neck heal where it meets the body. It's almost as if the neck isn't pocketed into the body.

Head stock profile looks wrong, no country of origin on the neck.

The front edge of the bridge looks too close to the pick guard.

What is going on with the selector switch?

Black screws?

After a little bit of digging around I am of the opinion that the neck is from a Korean Squier.
The headstock has a painted face, and the tuners are typical of the breed.

Because of the neck situation, and also of all the mismatched hardware, my intuition tells me that the "Fender parts" are also of Squier origin.
The seller of the guitar has more than likely removed the original decals and replaced them with some Ebay sourced Fender decals, so they're basically trying to defraud an inexperienced buyer.

I thought of that, too - after all, there have been quite a lot of Squiers with matching headstocks.
But, the 12th fret dots seem to me to be too wide apart even for a Squier,
and that ain't a Pro-Tone series (your pic) neck; IIRC those were skunk striped.

the guitar is being advertised as a genuine Fender parts guitar.

I'm a big fan of Partscasters (say, EC's Blackie) (well, I'm also a fan of all kinds of pork - but don't really enjoy the occasional, obligatory tux code), so this statement seems
a) a bit harsh as a general definition, and
b) off topic here - the consensus seems to lean towards "not FMIC origin"...
I of course respect your opinion.
