Ok at the top tool bar there is an IMG button click on it. When these image codes pop up do this
Image URL goes here inbetween these

I suggest if you have a facebook load the pictures into a privacy setting of public photo album, right click the photo once loaded and the list of options will pop down. Click the one saying "Copy Image URL" If you dont have a facebook there are a bunch of other image hosting sites such as photobucket or myspace.

Ok what you have is an American Special HSS Stratocaster, so as to not confuse anyone in the future refer to it as that. The American Texas Special HSS was the renamed Lone Star Stratocaster before it was sent to Mexico. You do not have that. All you will need is a pickguard and a Bridge Texas Special Pickup. If you like Black Pearl I have one laying on my bench... DO NOT get excited and type your address for the world to see. If you want the items you can have them I dont want them and I will ship them to you it will cost you nothing. Unless you live out of USA lol private message me

Are you still needing the pickguard and pickup?

I wish I could hear your sound as that would give me some idea of what you are trying for.

Sounds like Metallica or SRV? Any way I will probably never have a big Marshal to play with for real, although my Mustang 2 is supposedly trying to mimick the Marshal. What I'm hearing is that the Marshal can be set up to stay fairly clean when your're not hitting the strings hard, but breaks up nicely into distortion at some pre determined level.

But I'm just trying to stay out of the distortion and make it sing like Mark Knopfler with that sweet sort of hollow sound like Sultans of Swing. Not that I will ever be that good, but it's something to shoot for. I also like some of the original Steely Dan stuff in the Jaz world and things that "cry" or sing, but distortion is not my bag.

What's not right with the "Grease Bucket design??"

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

If you want the Knopfler sound that takes the SSS configuration with a vintage style pup and a 5-way switch in the 2 or 4 position.

My HHS is a no pickguard model so thinking of a P90 sized to fit into a humbucker route.

Ok I sent you a PM. I just did a humbucker conversion for someone and these parts were left over.

DonnieCraven.

Well tonight I decided to try your standard Strat wiring from the diagram included here.
I think the guitar sounds slightly fuller in tone and maybe a tiny bit louder. It's nice to have the #3 position have tone control and it may come in handy someday.

At first I was thinking that the unused lugs of the two tone pots needed to be grounded, but I watched the Youtube "standard Full tone wiring " video and he didn't ground his unused lugs, so it must be OK? I might have been thinking of the Volume pot 3rd lug in which case Yes it does get grounded there, but not on the tone pots.

Once again thanks for all your help and advice!

Tillerman6

Anyway it works like it looks in the diagram (no connection) for the 3rd lug on both tone pots.

I think now I can hear the differences in all three pickups, and the highs are not rolled off nearly like the greasebucket version of the wiring.

Right now I have a .022mfd cap in there just like the diagram shows it. I may try a different one at a later time if the need arises.

Save for the authentic vintage models, Fender did everyone a favor, including themselves, when they routed the Strat bodies HSH.

Does that mean my 2012 Amn Dlx Strat SSS is routed so that, with a change of pups and pickguard and what not, I can make the change to HSH or HSS without having to put that router to work? For now I like the SSS, but ya never know, I might jump off the cliff in the future.

Yes all Mexican and American strats save the Vintage lines as Doc mentioned are routed for a humbucker in the neck and bridge under the pickguard.
