Serial number says is a 2008 American Vintage Series. Went to the 2008 catalogue and couldn't find anything that looks like it. Nothing with gold hardware or pearl pickguard and tuners. Was told that other than upgraded pickups it was original.

My guess: heavily modded with Guitarfetish parts. But: a two point trem on an "American Vintage"..?

(BTW: On AVRI's, the serial number doesn't tell the whole story: "for American Vintage series, check neck date for specific year"...)

No way that's an AVS of any persuasion.

Wrong bridge, too many frets, incorrect pickguard, pickups, tuners, string tree, yada, yada, yada.

I wouldn't even pronounce it as a genuine Fender product of any kind without first dissecting it and inspecting every part for legitimacy.

Well, the strap is. Starting to wonder about the rest!

Hmmmmm!!!
Methinks an autopsy and photospread is required!

It most certainly isn't a vintage reissue, but that's about all that can be said :)

Tuners are Fender. Came in Fender case. Headstock says is a MIA Fender. Maybe that is where the Fender ends?

Have no problem with the way it plays and sounds though. When I bought it I thought it was an American Deluxe. Right amount of frets and the Deluxe also has 2 point trem. Then the serial number pointed to an American Vintage.

If you pay for a Fender American Deluxe Guitar and it is not , you may pay too much :(

Well:
I found the Deluxe Hot Rails Strat on the 2008 Frontline page 79 (issuu numbering) or 77 (printed numbering), but it was only available with a rosewood fretboard, Squier branded and not American - MSRP 449$.
If that was the body donor model, the neck (among with "everything") would have been replaced to... who knows.

Maybe it's time you check the serial number with Fender, see what comes back.

And: there's a definite and overwhelming bling factor to this guitar - it all boils down to "other than upgraded pickups it was original" vs. how much you paid.

OK. Tried running the serial number again - this time with reading glasses. Is a "Z" 8. Not "V". So, 2008 American Standard? Deluxe would be "DZ". Correct number of frets, string tree is correct, and both have 2 point trem. Couldn't find a 2008 to compare to though. Also don't know if was offered with gold hardware and pearl in '08. Pretty sure it wasn't offered with rail pickups but was told they were upgraded so wasn't expecting to find a match there. Maybe loaded pickguard instead of just a pickup replacement? The gold and pearl tuners are Fender but guess can't guarantee that they are original either.

Is possibly a 2008 Am Standard?

The guitar is so heavily modded that it's just about impossible to recognize the basic guitar underneath. But like I wrote in the previous, send an email to Fender, with the correct serial number - for a 2008(ish) guitar, they usually have the original specs. It's consumerrelations@fender.com although they really can hide it in this new website jungle...

fenderfan,

Look at 2008 Fender Frontline in line;

Here down this page , Support , library , download .

As jmattis write, the guitar is so modified ; with serial number neck could be a 2008 American Standard ,
Body ? You must remove the neck to see the pocket number

If it were an American Deluxe, it would have a chrome logo on the headstock.

cheers!

So, fenderfan, did you get any feedback from Fender?
