...which amp did you get for it?

I will reveal that in a NAD thread after I get it dialed in with the right tubes.....still swapping to find the combination that will get the best from it. Hints: It uses a pair of 6L6 output tubes, fixed bias, class AB.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I just got a new Am Std HH Strat, Olympic White, Maple neck, from Sweetwater today. I waited for the temperature to acclimate before opening, and as usual with Sweetwater, it was perfect out of the box.

I have only spent a very few minutes playing, using my new amp while swapping tubes, trying to find the right combination, but so far the guitar sounds sweet. The pups are very ballsy, great note separation and a balanced sound, so you can hear each string clearly when playing chords. With the amp set for clean sound, the cleans are nice and full with a rich sound and clear highs. With the gain on the amp turned up a little, the distortion is smooth and still clear enough, very responsive to pick attack. The pups look nearly the same as those on the Blacktop, but these Twin Head sound quite different so far. The Blacktop pups are much darker, the Blacktop neck being almost too muddy/dark. Although the controls on this new Strat are a bit unfamiliar, a volume for each pup, a master tone, and a three-way switch with no coil splitting, I think that I can get used to it.

I will try it with different amps over the next few days and see how it works with each. I am thinking that it will be great with a high gain amp like the Blackstar, or even with the MB TA, and am anxious to hear it with the DR. So far with this new (mystery) amp, I can tell that the Strat is a winner, and I can't wait to try it out some more.

I'll report later after trying different amps, but until then, some pics. Oh yeah, it looks good too! :D

OK, I have tried this guitar with a lot of amps and speakers and I can testify that it covers just about any amp/sound very well. :D I have been mostly using it with my new amp (patience, will reveal soon), and the guitar sounds really amazing. I have also tried it with the DR head with various speakers (1x12 Fender cab with Swamp Thang, 2x10 Dr Z cab with Dr Z speakers, 2x12 Fender cab with V30s), DRRI combo (stock Celestion), Blackstar HT 20 (Marshall 4x12 cab with Texas Heats and Red, White & Blues), MB TA15 (Fender 2x12 with V30s), and an Orange Tiny Terror (Fender 1x12 cab with EV). I might have forgotten some combinations, but everything had terrific sound, lots of versatility for any type of sound from Country, to Jazz, to Blues, to Heavy Metal (or at least as close as my friends and I can get to those sounds). It's all there, from single coil-like clarity to hum-bucker power, and everything in between.

One of the most fabulous combinations that I tried was a DR head plugged into a Dr Z 2x10 cabinet. This was one of the sweetest sounding setups, wonderful sparkly cleans with the bridge, clean and chirpy with both pups, and with the neck it was warm, clear and solid, and none of the notes were ever overbearing, very balanced and articulate with great note separation. I could easily move between getting great cleans, and driving the amp to smooth/crisp distortion, using volume adjustments and different pick attack. The cab wasn't mine, and now I want to get one. :D

Although all combinations that we tried had great sounds, another outstanding one was the Orange Tiny Terror through an old Fender 1x12 with an EV Speaker. This had to be one of the best driven blues sounds that I've heard from this guitar. The driven sound was extremely warm and smooth, yet crisp, punchy, and articulate, very SRVish, but a bit heavier. The Am Std HH wasn't nearly as biting as a Tele with a more powerful hum-bucker that we tried, but the sound was still magically delicious (I'm running out of adjectives  )

After several days of testing, and having a ball doing so, I still have a smile on my face, and can't say enough good things about this guitar.

Overall, this is a superb guitar, and although it is hard to choose an absolute favorite combination of amp and speaker(s), I am thoroughly enjoying it with my new amp through a HRDlx 1x12 Swamp Thang. I can switch between beautiful cleans and excellent driven sounds with the push of a foot switch button (actually two buttons: hint  ) 8) 8) 8)
