One of the best changes I made to my strat was yanking the 0.022 mfd and putting in a 0.1 mfd.

My theory as to why they switched: big amps + high volume led to widespread hearing loss among guitar players and the self-perception that they didn't have enough treble. So they decided to ice-pick up their guitars.

Did you have more of a vintage 50's sound after the cap change?

It removed the ice pick and gave it a bit of a deeper sound, but still has plenty of range. It's better for surf and pretty much all kinds of 50s+60s music. Also sounds closer to Frusciante as he plays strats from that era.

My guitar was modeled after a 1964 strat Jimi Hendrix had that looked similar. Fender made some changes to accomodate the price point but changing pickups and the cap (done in two stages) has gotten me to where I'm highly pleased with the guitar.

1970 , a great rock area

+1

The 1970's gave us Wishbone Ash, Free, Crabby Appleton, T-Rex, Argent, Montrose, Boston, Derek & The Dominos, and many other fine bands.

70s were good rock years, but From 1974 through 1977, disco music continued to increase in popularity as many disco songs topped the charts.
In 1974, "Love's Theme" by Barry White's Love Unlimited Orchestra became the second disco song to reach number one on the Billboard Hot 100,
The Hues Corporation's 1974 "Rock the Boat", a U.S. #1 single and million-seller, was one of the early disco songs to hit #1. The same year saw the release of "Kung Fu Fighting", performed by Carl Douglas
Also in 1974, Gloria Gaynor released the first side-long disco mix vinyl album, which included a remake of The Jackson 5's "Never Can Say Goodbye" and two other songs, "Honey Bee" and "Reach Out (I'll Be There)". Formed by Harry Wayne Casey ("KC") and Richard Finch, Miami's KC and the Sunshine Band had a string of disco-definitive top-five hits between 1975 and 1977, including "Get Down Tonight", "That's the Way (I Like It)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "I'm Your Boogie Man" and "Keep It Comin' Love". Electric Light Orchestra's 1975 hit Evil Woman, although described as Orchestral Rock, featured a violin sound that became a staple of disco. In 1979, however, ELO did release two "true" disco songs: "Last Train To London" and "Shine A Little Love".
and on and on and on
I know as I fell out of rock from 74 to 75 when this came out, "The Hustle" is a famous disco song by songwriter/arranger Van McCoy and the Soul City Symphony, and I was done with this and went back to follow the grateful dead tour till Jerry Died
Sorry for the rant off subject but I may try the 0.1 mfd as the bridge pick up is to icy for me right now

Bridge pickup usually isn't wired to a tone pot - guess Leo Fender didn't think was needed. You can jump a wire from bridge pup to one of the tones but then that one will be .1 as well if you change the tone cap. My MIA has the bridge pup jumped to the neck tone pot and I wouldn't want a .1 on it. Just making the jump would give you tone control on the bridge that might eliminate your ice pick sound without changing the cap. Couple inches of wire and a soldering iron is all you would need and easy to undo if you don't like it.
