I'm sorry if there's already a thread for this, but none of them have been any help. My Stratocaster has a major hum on a clean channel, and then an earsplitting buzz on anything with any overdrive or distortion on it. I've installed proper shielding, have tried every grounding method (ranging from a metal strip, to the output jack, to the bridge/claw) with absolutely no success. The hum becomes more prevalent as you turn the tone knobs up and decreases as the knob is turned down. All of the knobs and the switch are brand new and properly installed. Touching any metal results in an aggravated buzz, however touching the output jack cover seems to make the buzz less pronounced. Every forum I've read thus far has been one long loop of the same answers and fixes, none of which have worked. Please, anyone who knows what the problem is AND knows how to fix it, tell me. I'm desperate to get my guitar working again. Videos, pictures, and diagrams would be greatly appreciated, but anything that'll fix it is very very welcomed.

Some ground ( wire ? ) is missing , or bad ground solder .

Check guitar cable to amp ( sure you do first ) . Check all your work you forget something or do something wrong

Good picture of all electronics may help

A ground test on a guitar should made with not pedals , guitar plug direct on clean channel on the amp

You might have a ground loop, If you have not tried this yet, bring all of your grounds to 1 common point, if you have a ground wire soldered across all of your pots, cut them. I know you said you have tried everything, but this worked for me.

I hope it helps!

Clean channel or bridge pickups ?

Channel is on amp not on a guitar

stratele52 is right..there is a grounding problem..

I had a similar problem installing a Clapton Mid Boost in a high end build..

..and I KNEW that I had done everything right!

This went on for several weeks..increasingly frustrating..until I would fume just looking at the guitar..

Sound familiar? :)

Finally I flew to Dallas (from NJ) and had my most sensible musician friend go over the wiring with me

We forced each other to scrutinize EVERY possible connection

..and..YES..found a simple ground wire that I hadn't run back to the Volume Pot

..mine was from the body ground lug..You'll find yours..helps to have a correct diagram..

Good Luck..

- Dan

The guitar makes the hum no matter what pickups you're on. I realize channels are not on the guitar.

Your technique of one common grounding point appears to have worked, quite well if I may add. Thank you for the help.

I hope it helps!
