Hey CP 50s Owners,
Does this thread already exist? If not, IT SHOULD! Let's see 'em! Let's hear 'em. Let's talk about 'em! What mods have you done, or is it perfect the way it is? Man, I love my new CP 50's. I was kinda a MIA snob, but this guitar makes me want to drive to Ensenada and buy margaritas for the whole factory. I just got it and I'm playing it way more than my Rosewood AmStd. Classic Fender, for sure. I'm waiting on my custom mint green Callaham p.g and trem cover. That's all I'm gonna do. That, and a nice tweed case. Sure, a 50th Anniversary Custom Shop '54 would be nice, or a '57 American Reissue, but for the money, this can't be beat. Mine's got a really nice 3-piece body with beautiful grain and a lovely 2-color burst. The one piece Maple neck is awesome. The 57/62s sound great. What' not to like? :P

I've got a 2 tone sunburst and I love it. I got it on e-bay and it had a set of gold lace-sensors in it. It also came with the originals, so I figured I couldn't go wrong. After deciding the lace sensors were ok, I put the 50's pickups in my '89 MIM. Man what a difference. Love the 50's CP, love my '89 with the 50's pickups.

Mine is a great guitar. The stock pickups were very nice, but I have a very electrically noisy house, so I replaced them with Dimarzio Area '58 with a '61 in the bridge. I also changed the wiring. I liked that it had the neck and bridge position in the switch, but I missed the neck+middle option. I ended up changing that but adding a push/pull pot to get the neck+bridge back.
Now it's perfect.
I LOVE the neck. The soft V is so comfortable. The two point trem with the vintage style saddles is awsome too. It's the perfect mix of old and new.

Looked around for them yesterday at GC and SA in Hollywood. No C.P.s to be found, but plenty of Classics. I guess the CPs are selling well. Perhaps to the employees before they get to the floor?:). Anybody do any mods on these? Tints? CS Pups? Anybody steel-wooling the neck? Pickguard/plastic combos? Let's see 'em! Or are these really just a really good $500-750 guitar right out of the box? Hmmm....I'd like to see pics of those, too. I got to take some shots myself.

I found a used one (2-tone sunburst, my fave) in "excellent" condition, going to check it out tomorrow. Online, it says the CP 50s have "custom switching"? I plan to install the EMG DG20 set, and if the CP50 has S-1, I would like to incorporate that into the DG20 set so that it is "original" amd not a "signature" set. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I just got one in a trade last week. Great guitar! I'm really happy with it.

One question : Mine did not come with the trem bar, do I need one that is specific to the bridge on the CP 50 or will it take any Strat bar?

Thanks

I believe the custom switching refers the what pickups are on in what position of the switch. I guess it's the #4 position (normally neck and middle pickup on) is changed to the neck and bridge pickup on. It really gives it a different sound. That's how it is on mine anyways.
