I have a 1997 modded MIM Strat. I recently switched from 9's to 10's and went to an all nickel string by DL. They appear to be softer on the fingers and to me give me a warmer sound. I play a maple neck so the nickel plated strings can get bright!

Strings are tough, they are all a matter of preference. I am not a shredder so I play slower type stuff (blues, classic rock). This works for me. They cost a little more and supposedly don't last as long but I love them.

good luck finding your sound!

I have an unmodified MIM Standard Strat that is a really nice guitar. I'm looking for recommendations on the strings to try for the best Fender sound for classic rock and blues playing. What's better, 9's or 10's? Any brands that you favor? In terms of amps, I play through a Cyber Deluxe, a TRRI, a Champion 600, and a Micro Cube. Thanks!

I use West Music nickel wound extra light strings for my strat. I am very happy w/ them even though they are only made for West Music stores. I think that's only in Iowa. Sorry!!

I prefer Ernie Ball strings as well. Right now I have 9's but I will be switching to 10's in the near future. The Fender Bullets seemed to wear out/rust very quickly, even with the proper wipe down of the strings after playing.

I am also a 9-42 guy. Consider 10-46s which will give you a tad more meat in your tone, but will sacrifice on the bending. Personally, if it were not because I am a string bending madman, I would go 10-46 ...

Just my $0.02 ...
