Now I am wondering when this pict was taken? Looks like Fullerton bodies by the fat rounded curves and not the newer thinner bevels with flat edges like on the American Standard guitars from 1988 onward??? Does anyone know?

I almost tend to think these are both pictures of the Mexican stuff. They seem to get better every year at what they do. That Deluxe Lone Star is mighty tempting.

Well one clue would be to count the pieces of wood used to make the bodies. Other then the mexi made reissues I think they are like 4 or 5 pieces? I can not tell from the pics on my screen. Maybe someone else can? The best I can make out at least on the raw bodies is there are 2 or 3 piece which would point to USA. But this is based on an educated assumption. Or one side might be standards and one side might be reissues? It would really help to see the routes..no mistaking there.

Most of the bodies I seen don't have micro tilt only a couple which would be their floyd Rose models.

I found that pic on another forum posted in 2009. Supposedly pics were taken at the Mexican plant AND the Corona plant as a "Fender product education tour a few years back" by someone who worked for a Fender dealer. I am not 100% sure if that pic was from the Mexi or Corona plant since the poster was not specific but this pic was included as well... As far as a time frame I guess whatever a "few years back" from 2009 means  I would assume in the 2000's but can not verify for certain.

In this picture. The serious shine sort of screams polyester finish too.

Well they use poly on the USA other then the hwy ones which are just nitro over poly. But I can see micro tilt holes on most of the strat bodies and some teles in the color pic so it points to USA. On the pic of the raw bodies though I can not tell if those are micro tilt or not. The only way to tell there I think would be by the number pieces of wood used on the body and it is hard for me to tell. (I also wonder sometimes if any USAs are "assembled" in Mexico, not a far trip from the Corona plant)

They use urethane on USA not polyester. I don't think they make any USA models in Mexico. They do move production of some USA models to Mexico in time, sometimes parts I buy say made in Mexico or made in USA mainly humbuckers and pickguards. They both seems about the same.

No, you're correct, they don't. Models marked USA, but made in Mexico would have the feds all over them. False designation of origin is a violation of federal trade regulations.

Besides, Fender tried something like that before, the California Series. They were cut/shaped in US, painted in Mexico, and assembled back in the states. Price point between MIM and USA. They were good guitars but apparently didn't sell, because the series was scrapped after just a couple years.

Well then it would be a safe bet that at least the color pic is the USA factory unless they are making USA bodies in Mexi and shipping them to the USA for assembly. I am not aware of any Mexi bodies that use microtilt.

Speaking of "False designation of origin" I recall a thread here about some Fenders that were made in japan but said made in USA on them years ago...some kind of "export thing" but IIRC the made in USA was a sticker not in the normal spot where Fender would put the waterslide.

Not really sure. It was an oddity and there was a lot of debate. It seems a few members had purchased them in the past and some salespeople said it was made in USA and some said it was not "all" made in USA but used USA parts but the distributors might have been the ones putting the made in USA stickers on them. Some had no marking of origin on them at all.

I think I recall someone posted a pic under the guard and it was Japanese pots. There was something shady about the whole thing granted they did not seem like bad guitars. Who knows they might even go up in value as being some rare Fender anomaly but there is no way to find out for sure as Fender USA is all hush hush about it when asked and Fender Japan said to "ask Fender USA, we know nothing and are not allowed to give out any info" lol.

It was early 80s. They had to outsource CNC work until their machines arrived. I believe they were assembling though.

I know about that but those guitars were clearly labeled "made in japan." These were not labeled but someone was sticking made in USA decals them and they were clearly being made in Japan and using at least some Japan parts on the electronics (not sure about the bodies or necks) and they were being sold deceptively either by accident or on purpose. No one knows the exact back story on those particular oddities or if they do they are taking this to the grave it seems.

Maybe someone can find the thread. I do not even remember if they were serial numbered but even if I do not recall that shedding any clues since it is known how ambiguous or even useless some Japan serial numbers and stampings were and even Fender claims there are no records in existence. And now I read they are reusing old numbers meaning in the years to come is only going to increase the confusion that much more.

Oh just thought I would clear this up. When I said "poly" I was not meaning polyester, but polyurethane.

That color body rack pic is driving me insane. I have to say the solo orange body in the pic has caused a little drool......

So here's my one and lonely:
