Anyone here know how to adjust the pickups height wise to make them sound good? I had read that they should be really low. Does anyone know if this is true. I like to know just how low.

The Fender recommendation for vintage style pickups is 6/64" (2.4 mm) for lowE side and 5/64" (2 mm) for highE side (string pressed at the last fret, clearance from string bottom to pickup).
After that, use your ears for optimizing the height to your own sound preferences - there just isn't one "absolutely optimal" or "right" pup height.

Thanks, I've tried different heights and, I still am not knocked out by the results. I may gut out this guitar and, put in some different pups, caps, wiring, etc. It is a nice guitar which sounds like $@! right now.

For a nice, articulate, twangy, '50s sound, I would suggest Tex-Mex. For the price, they are hard to beat.

Thanks! I was thinking about putting on the ones they have on the satin finish Strat with the no load tone pots. The Tex Mex are great, isn't what the Jimmie Vaughan Strats have on them? I love that guitar!

I called up Fender and found out that the pickups I got are called the Mexican Vintage pickups. They are suppose to be 5.7 ohms on all three. When I put a meter on it I got a surprise:

Bridge 5.55
Middle 5.57
Neck 5.64

I might swap bridge and neck and see if I like the results better. If I don't I will gut it out and, put all new electronics. I will wire it like a real 50s Strat as much as I'm able to. I might put the Tex Mex pups in because they are the goods! I will use a three way switch perhaps. That one I'm still thinking about. It is a nice option having middle bridge and neck middle. I use middle bridge quite a bit. If I'm going to go through the hassle I'll put in some nice caps and, CTS volume and tone pots as well. I'll try to get some cloth wiring as well. I believe it is available. The more I think about it, the more I want to go with a three way switch full 50s Stratocaster.
