checked out an American de Luxe HSS the other day, and the new push-in trem bar has a real headache - it moves around in the socket and knocks against the side of the hole, feels awful. Anyone else have this problem, and is it adjustable - there's nothing obvious . . . .

Yes, check the manual. The set screw is at the rear of the bridge, under the plate.

If you don't have a manual, look here.

No problem whatever w/ my American Deluxe Ash.

While it's impossible to diagnose without pics (hint...hint) , I think it just needs adjustment.

The Am. Dlx. is a great guitar !

cheers!

Thanks, guys - I don't have a manual (haven't bought the guitar yet - but it looks as though I will!) and can't find the manual with reference to the new type trem system. I can see a grubscrew pointing forwards inside the trem cavity, but need a nano-gnome to get inside there and turn it - it looks as though the whole trem unit has to come out - surely not . . . . . is this a factory cock-up on this particular instrument? On an American deLuxe???
I'm buying the HSS to take the strain off my 50th Anniversary Strat; great guitar, bought in 2005 and getting too much wear and tear - and to get a wider palette of sounds - I have to say, I've never had a problem with the "old" 2 post trem fitted to that guitar, so it's annoying to find this one, when the rest of the guitar looks so great . . . . :(

I had an American Deluxe before. If your trem is setup to float all you have to do is push down on the trem arm and as the bridge comes up, the screw becomes accessable.

I hated the trem arm on my deluxe as it had no plastic tip and looked like it belonged to a floyd rose rather than a Fender.

Welcome to the forum weedsy,

Have a talk with the seller, ask them to adjust the set-screw (if that's the problem) or adjust the price accordingly.

Personally I really liked my Deluxe and the pop-in Trem bar, stays where you leave it rather than flopping around.

Good luck,

- Dan

Stick a tip on it then!
I did, because didn't like the feel of the arm without a tip on - I tend to use my ring finger and pinkie around the base of the tip of a normal arm, and without it things feel alien to me.
I had an arm from a Mexican Strat kicking around, so I used that.

I didn't like the angle of the bend of the arm either, as the arm was too close to the front of my guitar, so into the vice it went and I bent the arm so the arm sits higher.

Thanks for all your replies - a picture is beginning to emerge - firstly, I'm not the only one to put the bar in a vice; secondly, I'm pleased to note the bar stays put once adjusted correctly (the one on my Steve Vai Ibanez used to - now the teflon inserts are worn, and it's floppier than - well, never mind).
Thirdly, I'll be trying for a plastic tip on the HSS if I buy it - and I may shorten the arm before I fit it - the string strike point has an enormous role in tone, and the arm length comes into play there.
Lastly - Stratmangler - do you know how many great bands cut their teeth at the Rawtenstall Astoria???

I'd never heard of it until you posted about it.
I moved up here from Manchester 25 or so years ago.

The Astoria was quite the place to be according to this http://www.manchesterbeat.com/venues/ra ... storia.php

Over here it's very difficult to find a switch tip that's big enough to fit on the end of the bar as it's much thicker than the conventional one.

I have bought a few bits and pieces from this place, and they're very prompt with delivery and good on price - they also stock what you need to fit on the end of your wang bar http://www.firstguitars.co.uk/shop/fend ... -arm-tips/

Yep as mentioned two short allen key type grub screws on the right as viewed from the rear of the bridge for adjustment they just apply pressure to a plastic insert.
One strat I got had a longish allen key with a very short end which you could slip down between the body and the back of the bridge but was still a bit fiddly.
If it needs a full adjust I generally loosen the strings and take the springs off.
You can then carefully manoeuvre the bridge out but be careful, it is easy to chip the v slots or ding the body!
Also there is a clip that the bottom of the hole that bar tip slips into so make sure the it is fully in.
It makes a kind of thunk when driven home. :D

Thanks, stratmangler, for the link - off topic, our band opened for the Yardbirds and the Kinks (amongst others) at the Astoria - I'm very old!
And I'll ask about the grubscrews, maybe the dealer will risk the damage . . . .
Thanks for all your help.
