Hi, I'm new here. I'm going to be buying my first strat soon, and I've decided to go with the new Shawbucker strat. There's one thing I'm wondering about. Could anyone tell me why the American Standard Shawbucker strat has a dual pot and not the American Deluxe Shawbucker strat? I'd prefer the N3's, since I'm going to be using it in the studio. Does the pot make any significant difference on the American Deluxe shawbucker v.s. the American Standard? Is the tone noticeably different, and does it clean up differently?

Hi,

Both the American Deluxe (I guess) and Standard Shawbucker Strats feature the dual concentric 250/500K pot.

This feature optimizes the tonality of each pickup switch setting by automatically running the Shawbucker bridge pickup at 500K for greater openness and brilliance, while the neck and middle pickups run at 250K for spine-tingling single-coil sparkle.

For the American Deluxe Shawbucker Fender modified the S1 switch to be fully compatible with the new dual concentric pot.

Awesome! Thanks man!

Though it's strange how it isn't mentioned anywhere, how do you know? I can't seem to find any website mentioning this

I suppose Fender also added the dual 250/500K pot on the Deluxe though I'm not as 100% certain. Some websites did mention of that feature for the Deluxe.

In that case the S1 switch needs to be reconfigured.

It's likely possible this feature is not present on the Deluxe to avoid a conflict with the S1 (there are two types of S1 switches with 250 and 500K).

I will really like to confirm if the Am Deluxe has the dual pot config as well. Even in the youtube videos seem to say that ONLY the Standard has that capability. If someone has a clear answer please let us know.

The S1 switch is listed in the Fender spare parst list only in 250K and 500K versions; there is no dual version available.
So, it's probably best to rely on Fender's own specs pages - Standard with dual pot, Deluxe with "normal" S1.
Hope that's clear - but only Fender can confirm it solid

@andymo: Those models are new, and very similar to each other, so I think you'll have a hard time looking for an in-depth review and comparison - why would anyone buy both?
So, the only advice I can give is, go play both on an amp you're familiar with.

Ok, thanks chromeface and jmattis, I didn't think of that. I guess that either fender couldn't figure out how to do it with the s-1, or they didn't have time to do it before NAMM, either that or they didn't feel the need to I would assume. Also, I guess Fender would have put that in the spec page if they had added it to the Deluxe version. Like you said jmattis, there probably won't be any in depth reviews of it for a while, so I'll have to check it out at the Musicmesse in Frankfurt. I assume Fender will be showcasing the new guitars there, so I can ask them about it then. I'll be sure to post what they say if I get an answer. Thanks for the insight!

The depth of the vol pot with the S1 is already at least twice that of a normal pot so I guess if you added yet another resistor unit (assuming it is a dual concentic pot) to the back of it it would be just too deep to fit in a normal route.
Possibly what what be more interesting is if it is just a dual how this pot is wired and what true resistive load is presented to each pickup..
Just guessin of course! :D

So I have a 2012 American Standard HSS with the Diamondback Humbucker and the Fat 50s. Did they have the dual concentric 250/500K pots in them in 2012? If not, is this something I should look into installing?

According to the wiring diagram, an AmStdHSS2012 has 250K pots.

On the mod to dual pot question, only you can judge if you need the added options it brings. A HSS Strat is mighty versatile as is...

OK, so I'm installing a humbucker in my 2007 American Series Strat. Is this pot available anywhere to purchase? I want the humbucker to run at 500K, and the singles to run at 250K. There are many ways to achieve this, but this Dual 250K/500K Volume Potentiometer seems the best (and easiest) way.
